I dont see how ANYONE could like the Red Delicious. They are so mealy and mushy.
Im in SE Washington (actually NE Oregon today). Thats hardly the case eating them right off the tree here LOL
I’m going to have to try it. The apple breaks so cleanly I thought it was a trick, that he had pre-cut it with a knife.
Winesap or Granny Smiths for me. I detest red and yellow delicious apples, too mushy and not good taste.
The Red Delicious used to be sweet and soft, an excellent apple.
But because it was soft, it tended to get crushed and bruised, reducing sales because too many apples were unsellable. So, growers changed the apple characteristics so it was no longer soft and not as sweet.
So, the Gala has now replaced the RD because its sweet and soft. But as it suffers too many lost apples due to bruising, they will change it, too.
Friction from your palms cause the apple to split. If its not mushy.
I agree,
they’re Delicious.
Does anybody have a Linux Mint Apple?
Thank you for that info! Very interesting!
Local organic producer in southeast Wisconsin is selling Zestar. Better then even honeycrisp.
You probably should ask that in the forum..
Happy to share! Its amazing how many different varieties there are!
Gala has been my absolute favorite since its introduction. Some of the newcomers, like Honeycrisp, are OK, but Gala just “does it” for me.
Not around these parts.
Macs are one of the few you can find around here any time.
But then again, the stores have to be very selective about what they sell. This is apple orchard country and we know what a good apple is.
