Not a bad apple. I still prefer Winesap but since they don’t travel or store very well they have gotten quite scarce.
I’ll have to try a sixpack!
I like Pippins, but the boom in hard cider demand has virtually eliminated them from store shelves.
I agree on the Winesap. But will take a good Honeycrisp any day
Me too.
Galas are kind of bland. I like Cortland for eating. Cortlands cook up pretty good, but for cooking there’s the old Jonathan that I like best.
I can’t remember the last time I saw Winesaps in a store. Used to eat them all the time when I was a kid. Golden Delicious was my favorite back then, but they’re always mushy now.
Galas are good if we cant find Envys.
I often buy the Gala.
I also like the Braeburn and the red and yellow delicious.
I bought Pink Lady apples recently. Really tasty.
I like ambrosia apples pretty well.
The only apple I ca stand is the Granny Smith.
I just don’t care for all the red(dish) or yellow varieties.
Galas are good but I prefer Granny Smiths.
Galas are good but I prefer Granny Smiths.
Golden Delicious are crunchy if eaten within a week or two of harvest. The worst offender for mushiness is Red Delicious. I can't eat them. They are gross with a weird taste. Yuck.
The skin is not as thick and tough as Delicious.
A Mac is the best IMHO...the apples you get in the stores are not apples...they are tasteless...
A FRESH, crisp Red Delicious can hold its own with any other apple. Unfortunately, consumers generally get only Red Delicious apples that have been commercially stored and warehoused for months before taken to market.
The peels of red delicious have been bred to be tougher and thicker over the past decades to where they are sometimes unedible.
Cortlands,macs,pippins,grannies...all far superior to that dull cardboard tasting red delicious..
