Q, can you explain (for we non-sociopaths) why RATS act suicidally crazier the nearer their utter destruction looms instead of trying to talk their way out of it?

I’m not Q, but here’s my take on it.
Imagine that you are a puny little guy who got into a bar brawl with a heavyweight boxer and you pulled some dirty tricks on him, he found out, and now he has you cowering in the corner as he raises his fist to beat the crap out of you.
You might try to talk your way out of it. But considering the dirty tricks you pulled and probably a few other factors that would indicate you deserve the beatdown you are about to receive, you might realize that talking will get you nothing.
So you’re cornered with pretty much zero options. What do you do? You fight back with whatever you’ve got left. It looks like you are suicidally crazy, but you really have no other options. Your previous actions have probably closed the door on any “calm discussions” that a normal person would try.

Because the hill they’ve chosen to die on is the hill of their ego.
