A Kansas letter carrier was unable to carry out some of those Postal Service duties on Friday, after finding a snake on someones mailbox, police said.
The scaly creature was found wrapped around the wall-mounted mailbox and railing outside a residents home, the Overland Park Police said on Twitter.
The red tail boa constrictor, which appeared on Broadmoor Street, is believed to have broken free from a neighboring home, police told The Kansas City Star. Once discovered, the carrier called for help from animal control, police said.

I certainly wouldn't like to find it on my mailbox.
I hope they find the owner and he/she will be more careful with the snake in the future to avoid allowing him to get out.
Yes, yes. But what would John Kasich have done?
Ping.

Snow, rain, heat, gloom of night...
Nothing at all about snakes.
Yoder will get the snake a green card.
Those snakes should be exterminated.
They are not native. They cause massive problems when they go wild.
Good grief! Kasich would have eaten it on the spot.
I’ll be on pins and needles til November. I can only imagine the negative ads about Kris about to hit the air.
The chances of a boa going wild in Kansas are pretty much zero.
(I'm not from Kansas, but I was watching that race closely primary night, with it going back and forth, and back, and forth... I hope he wins by a much wider margin in the general election! Good luck!)
If it is a pet (not a display animal), it gets taken out and handled. Which means a high probability that from time to time the top isn't re-secured properly. Which means it escapes.
Everyone I know who has had a pet snake, has a long list of snake escape stories.
*lol*
Some people have all the luck.
A long time ago I handled a young boa owned by a friend. It was a baby compared to the one in the photo, just four or five feet, but I was shocked at how strong the thing was. It was built to squeeze, and it was very good at that.
It eventually escaped, then reappeared a couple of months later, slithering out of a drain pipe.
Dems in Kansas are worried Independent Gov. candidate Greg Orman will split the vote with Kelly.

Kansas use to be bright red - not anymore. I backed Kobach 100% but am afraid he’ll lose the moderates. An Independent running in KS will grab them and the RINOs, I believe. But, who knows. I hope I’m wrong.
