COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
A Columbus man has to have his arms amputated after being attacked by three pit bulls.
Forty-two-year-old Dudley Willis says he was walking home from the store last week when he was mauled by three pit bulls belonging to one the neighbors on the corner of 38th Street and Earline Avenue.
He was left laying here in this area, just left laying out here. Nobody called for help or nothing. He was just left laying out here, says his sister Alycia Willis.
Alycia Willis says he was left there for an hour and twenty-five minutes before being taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital.
The hospital called us after he had a seven-hour surgery. He has been through six surgeries since Sunday, says Alycia Willis.
She received another one of those phone calls during the interview with News Leader 9. The doctors told her that both of her brothers arms will have to be amputated.
It kind of scares me, says neighbor Carson Layfield.
Neighbors say the dogs have been a common problem for close to a year now. Some of the kids in the neighborhood say they cant even walk to their bus stop without fear.
The dogs chased them up the street and theyre only 10 and 8 years old. Theyre scared to death, says area resident Josh Drysdale.
The family says animal control has taken the dogs and the owner has been arrested. Neighbors say there are other dogs belonging to that same owner that they say are just as dangerous.
Its been an ongoing situation. They chased my daughter. She is six years old. If that would have been her, if that wouldve been a child thats going through what my brother is going through, they would not have survived, says Alycia Willis.
The family of the victim says they will be taking legal action against the owner of the dogs. They say for now theyre just wishing their loved one a speedy recovery.

Nneds to be a new murder category.
Murder by deadly animal. Lock this scum up for life without parole. They give no sh1ts about other people.
I don't see anyone "apologizing" for what this pack of dogs did. It does sound like a neighborhood someone should be at least packing a .32 cal handgun. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot any pack of animals attempting to attack me. The owner of these dogs should be charged with some kind of crime simply for allowing these dogs to run free. This is tragic and these dogs should be put down. They are likely doing exactly what the owner trained them to do. It's not their fault but they still need to be put down and the owner should do time and pay restitution. We also don't know what this person might have done to provoke these dogs. There's normally two sides to a story and we usually only get one side of them which also why I consider these posts to be fake news.
The problem on FR is this poster, and now a few more of her villainous friends, who post this garbage on a daily basis. I believe all FR Pit Bull haters are obsessed leftists who are also anti-gun and don't believe in the 2nd Amendment. I believe all of them are cut from the same cloth as those who would take our rights away. I believe they are all radicalized leftists with a nefarious agenda.
It's the same old tired dog bites man story day after day after day after day. Who here likes to see the same headlines everyday. It's tiresome and does no one any good. Is this a newsworthy story locally? Yes. Is it something that benefits FR members? Not at all IMHO. I have tried to explain this many times to no avail. They just keep on posting this trash like we really want to see it.
It’s hard to believe that someone hasn’t already taken care of the problem themselves. Why wait for law enforcement? When little kids are in danger also? NO! NO! NO! That is so scary!
Bless both you and your wife....seems no end to the row some people have to hoe... This story should NEVER have happened...
Sad. Prayers.
Cujo was a St Bernard. Dobermans only kill their masters.
German Shepherd used to be called police dogs and were considered dangerous. My uncle owned a motel that got robbed so he got a trained shepherd to protect the place. It answered to German commands. It would attack. My shepherd guarded my infant son with his life.
My family has had a few pit bull varieties. And some pit bull mix dogs. All sweethearts. I would personally put down any dog that wasnt thoroughly gentle around people (that is people who werent attacking me or my family)
Well,I,for one, don’t trust ANY pit bull and am wary of the owners of all such proven dangerous animals;also not fond of snakes in the house..ANY house!
Lifetime NRA member and believe the Second Admendment SHOULD render unconstitutional ALL those thousands of gun laws.

Two!
Youve mentioned a few examples that led to backyard breeders and puppy mills peeing in those breeds respective gene pools, ultimately ruining those breeds for a while.
Only when their popularity fades and responsible breeders begin to clean up the mess do things improve, though those genetic issues never fully go away.
Unfortunately, pit bulls have become popular to the worst people generally for the worst reasons who emphasize the worst characteristics of the breeds genetics.
Police and insurance records tell the rest of that breeds story, even if the fan clubs wont.
Lots of innocent people have suffered mutilation or even horrific deaths, so people could have a pit bull.
Seems a bit selfish to me, given the number and variety of other suitable dog choices.
Not sure what short of outright banning the breed for some period of time will fix that situation.
Insurance premiums are about the only price a person pays to have a pit bull versus some other breed, assuming the insurance company is told.
I just re-read my post. That wasn’t intentional. Honestly.
Christine was a Plymouth Fury.
I get it, I really do.
My post was satire, cynical, deep, sarcastic satire.
I have friends with pit bulls. Im never comfortable around their dogs, especially as Ive visited with MY dog - a german shepherd. Those dogs go NUTZ.
Plus my direct experience working ER and urgent care. The absolute worst dog bite injuries Ive ever seen are from pits. Those things JUST dont let go until prey is down and/or dead.
Those friends I mentioned? The comments I made are typical of what they say about their deep cover canine terrorists just waiting for the right signal to attack.
Hey I had a 1958 Plymouth. Never bit me once. Nice fine though.
Fins fins. Not fine. Auto correct. (Auto get it?)
Leftist.
I did some research looks like very few Insurance companies cover Pit Bulls and if they do the coverage is very limited.
