He attended a private Catholic school in Akron (St. Vincent/St. Mary), but Wikipedia does not say if he graduated (interestingly enough). He was apparently discovered by the NBA while playing for their basketball team.
I guess he was luckier than most, having been born to a 16-year-old single mother and never seeing his career criminal father. His mother had him move in with a local youth football coach by the name of Frank Walker; no other circumstances are given.
