In a matter of days, Mollie Tibbetts is supposed to accompany her boyfriend on an international trip to watch his older brother get married. First, though, she has to be found.
The last time anyone saw the 20-year-old college student was Wednesday night, as she was out for a jog in the small town of Brooklyn, in eastern Iowa, authorities say. Shed been dog-sitting but headed out for some exercise. She sent her boyfriend a photo on Snapchat that night. Then she vanished.
Five days later perhaps longer than any missing-persons case has lasted in the area, and four days since the disappearance was first reported by relatives authorities do not know why or how Tibbetts went missing, or who may be responsible.
Everything and everybody is under review, the county sheriff, Thomas Kriegel, told PEOPLE. Tibbetts family, meanwhile, must grapple with their new reality: a summer derailed, all plans put on pause in the shadow of the sudden mystery.

i’d look at the boyfriend but i read alot of true crime.....
Carry a damn weapon. Bad people dont like pain either. If a 22lr is all you can handle fine, just carry. Is this that hard to understand?
BROOKLYN, Iowa State and federal agents are investigating the disappearance of a 20-year-old University of Iowa student who has been missing for nearly a week from her hometown in eastern Iowa.
Volunteer searches for Mollie Tibbetts, of Brooklyn, were called off this week as the FBI and state investigators took over, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation spokesman Mitch Mortvedt said Tuesday.
“We’re still asking for the public’s help,” Mortvedt said. “We’d like to get any information we can. The more eyes and ears we have, the better.”
Mortvedt said officials have little to go on, but they’re “leaning more and more toward something happening to her against her will.”
Television station KCRG reported Tibbetts was staying at her boyfriend’s home at the time of her disappearance. She was there to watch his dogs because he had a construction job about 100 miles northeast in Dubuque. A neighbor reported seeing Tibbetts going for a jog last Wednesday evening.
Mountain Lion.
In Iowa?
“Carry a damn weapon.”
Yes, if you live where your 2A right hasn’t been abridged. And unfortunately, the places where your 2A rights have been restricted, are places where you need to carry the most.
Apparently, our "lawmakers" hate children and teenagers, and want them to be murdered, kidnapped, raped, and robbed.
Yes, they roam there...Wisconsin, too.
I’m a true crime buff also———so much of this type of thing is random——wrong place, wrong time——it is absolutely horrifying.
.
Id rather she pulled a pistol out of her fanny pack and live than be missing. Check out tiger claws. I bought sets for every female in my family. Alive with carry issues is better than what may have happened.
I'm sure he was the first person they looked at, whose story they checked out.
She's a pretty girl. Probably crossed paths with a psycho who saw an opportunity and took it.
These cases rarely have happy endings. Some farmer or hunter might stumble upon what's left of her in a few months, or a few years, or maybe never. People do sometimes vanish off the face of the earth.
Sorry check tiger lady.
Yes. I’ve seen them in eastern Nebraska. Farrowing units haul dead sows out for rendering pick up and seen them pretty tore up piglets are easier to drag away. Also the under hunting of deer attracts them.
I agree. I've been campaigning for reform (repeal) of gun laws for more than 30 years. This sort of thing is one of the reasons ... NOBODY should rendered defenseless by legislative act. Sharp weapons are all well and good, but We the People should not be forced to limit ourselves to them.
True.
“People do sometimes vanish off the face of the earth.”
Having ‘lost a child’( In a car accident) I can’t imagine having one just disappear.
Are you an ID Addict, too? I would look at the boyfriend, too.
