A Massachusetts police officer described as a “great family man and officer” died Sunday after a man attacked him with a rock, then took the cop's gun and shot him in the head and chest, officials said.
Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna, 42, was killed after he sustained "life threatening" injuries in the shooting just before 8 a.m., officials. Another woman in her home was also shot and killed when the suspect, Emmanuel Lopes, fired the gun three more times while escaping responding officers.
“Officer Chesna was an army veteran. In fact, I was speaking with his mom this morning and she told me she joined the military to help open the doors to get on this job [as a police officer],” Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes said in a news conference.

Additional responding officers chased Lopes through the neighborhood, where he allegedly discharged Chesna’s gun again, killing an elderly woman in her home. Her name has not been released pending next of kin notification.
Police reportedly shot Lopes in the leg. He is expected to survive and will be arraigned Monday on two counts of murder. It’s unclear if he will be arraigned in the hospital or in a courtroom. It’s also unclear if he has an attorney.

Used to live in that town when I worked up thee,and it was a peaceful place back then. Of course there was no diversity back then either.

The article is about people who are detained pre-trial because they cannot afford bail. Pre-trial, as in they have not been convicted of a crime. The law still affords those people the presumption that they have not broken the law, until it is proven to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt at a fair trial that they have.
I wonder if he think Mr. Lopes should be freed without bail.
Yup,down around New Bedford there are many folks with Portuguese blood.Also,not too far from me are many,many Brazilians...95% of whom panic when they see an ICE Agent,if you catch my drift.

BUT, they did not say he wasn’t illegal. That usually means he is. We do know he was homeless last fall when arrested for selling cocaine to minors...
