From time to time, my Dad (101st screaming eagles/scuzzy legs) talked about his friends and relatives that died in Vietnam. Stories to us, long ago & far away.

I was cutting class, prolly senior year, and playing tourist with friends in cc/old city Philly. We went up to the wall of the Philly Vietnam Memorial.

There they were, some our age, ground into stone.

A novelist's line equally unforgettable.

Thanx Nat

It's what I felt about 30 years ago. I hadn't thought about it since. That image brought the memory life.

Thank you for the ping ........ When I was stationed at Indianhead NOS MD down at the end of Hwy 210 I would make the trip to the wall every weekend. Tried to read every name on the wall before I was PCS’d to my next assignment.

Well, I can tell you that I saw the travelling Vietnam Memorial when it passed through Tulsa and at the time I didn’t think it such a big deal.

A few years later, I traveled to Washington D.C. and found myself on The Mall.

I didn’t know a name on the wall, which is directly in front of and to the left of the Lincoln Memorial.

I had walked through The Lincoln Memorial and found myself in awe of its symbolism.

I then walked to The Wall and observed the thousands of names and was overcome at the tremendous moss of life and sacrifice and was brought to tears .

Amazing experience and hope
everyone has that experience one day.

The same as I hope everyone can experience visiting D.C., Philadelphia, Liberty Island, Boston, Baltimore and many other historical sites.

Gettysburg is a very chilling and somber experience as well.

I could narrate the entire experience...but it’s best you see it for yourself.

I am sure seeing the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, would be a moving experience. I am not sure if anough time could ever pass, that I wouldn’t break down in tears at the sight.
I have, however, been to Capas, Tarlac, Luzon. My uncle, for whom I was named, died enroute to Camp O’Donnell. I am not sure if they ever found his body.
Several times, while watching news reel films, my dad swore up and down, that he saw his brother in those films. Who knows for sure?

I left in tears.

Was not ashamed, and everyone that saw me understood.

Go.

See it.

Go.

See it.

Actually, at the moment, I am closer to Tarlac than Washington, but if I can ever get back there, I will put it on my bucket list. 😁

It’s a thing.

Don’t be worried about crying tho.

Half the people in there were crying.

For some reason, I had the exact opposite reaction. I’ve seen the moving wall twice and been to the DC wall a few times.

For some reason, the portable wall gets me all choked up. The DC memorial wall doesn’t have the same reaction to me.

But then, I’m weird.

The video was amazing.
