They were built by men standing upon the shoulders of others from all over the world.

Some of those men were Americans themselves. Eli Whitney comes to mind. The Cotton Gin goes back to a rather early stage of the industrial revolution. And of course Whitney also championed the use of Interchangeable Parts. Now do some of the principles in the Industrial Revolution go all the way back to Pythagoras and Archimedes, and interchangeable parts to Gutenburg and others? Yes. But that doesn't preclude men like Eli Whitney being giants in their own right.

I agree. Another thing I thought of that seems to be a uniquely American invention is the zipper.

Israel, which has been in existence for only 70 years has given a couple of things to humanity.
