At least 19 people were hospitalized as of Monday (July 2) after eating food that had been contaminated by exposure to feces at a neighborhood potluck birthday party in Charlotte N.C., the Charlotte Observer reported.

More than 40 people were sickened and more could become ill with a "highly contagious" disease called shigella, which causes diarrhea.

I shy away from dinners where I don’t know everyone that brought a dish and trust their sanitary habits. Those PTA suppers when my kid was little were cringe worthy.

Back in the spring, near here, over 100 got sick from an illegal Mexican restaurant worker who didn’t wash his hands. We had travelled to that city the same day and ate out and I got sicker than a dog from food poisoning. Didn’t eat at the same place as the 100 but wonder if there might be a group of them in food service.

No Nepalese potluck birthday parties for me, that’s for sure.

There are tons of them working in the restaurant industry. They are filthy animals. Back where they come from everyone has built up a tolerance to eating food mixed with human waste - so why should they care about washing their hands?

That’s one reason I don’t like eating out and avoid it when I can.

First thing you do at a restaurant:
Check the washroom for soap and towels.
If no way for employees to wash hands, find another place to dine.
Basic hygiene 101.

Just because there are soap and towels available doesn’t mean some filthy mongrel from a shithole country is going to use them.

I grew up with the stuffing cooked in the bird, I’ve done the same and no one in our family has ever gotten sick at Thanksgiving. My grandmother used to say, clean kitchen, clean hands, happy tummy.

When I first read the title of this in the main forum I was thinking “They ate sh1t on purpose?”

Because, hey, in 21st Century America, anything is possible with Millennial hipsters!

I thought the same thing. I thought maybe it was a new fad, something like tide pods.
