I agree-—see Walter Huston in the film version of Sinclair Lewis’s Dodsworth-—a mature masterpiece.1936.Greatest performance by an American actor ever.
Unlike many here, I saw almost all of these and liked most of them.
The only ones I didn’t see (at the theater) was Bloodsport, Colors and Young Guns.
I saw those last two on cable. Yet to see Bloodsport.
Willow was great.
Every Christmas, we watch Die Hard and Scrooged.
Nothing better than a Leslie Nielsen comedy!
"Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano the minute he was 76 years old. Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis?' You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!"
One thing about “Rain Man” I recall was that the Dustin Hoffman character, wherever he was, had to watch “The People’s Court” every day (I don’t know why I remember that). I would not mind having a look at that title all of these years later, the AMC channel seems to show the same titles over and over again.
Its not Christmas without seeing Hans Gruber fall off the Nakatomi tower.
It was hilarious!
Here's a picture of his BIG Naked Gun:
Great filmmaking in that era.
They covered it all and with more grit than today.
Proud to say I’ve never seen a single one of those.
Why?
“Forest Whitaker”
For some unknown reason I just love him! I cried like a BABY when ‘My Jody’ got killed in, ‘The Crying Game.’
Oh, Gawd! Here come the waterworks all over again! Thanks a lot! ;)
Dang.
I’m old.
...and a couple of films that didn’t make the list of choices:
Stand and Deliver (I taught HS for 30 years, coached baseball — so this film was stellar to me; still is)
Midnight Run (A couple of pissants for stars; but it has scenes in Salt River Canyon, which is not far from me)
Shirley you would inlude “The Naked Gun”
Find a rainy afternoon and watch both, ‘Rain Man’ and ‘Tootsie’ back to back. Two of my faves. :)
If the rain lasts into the evening, throw in, ‘The Graduate’ for a Dustin Trifecta! ;)
...One classic and a bunch of snoozers...
