The Alliance will kick off its season the week after the Super Bowl and has a TV contract with CBS.
The AFL difference in rules from Wikipedia are:
Teams will have 50 players on each roster, with some selected by a territorial draft.
Telecasts will feature no television timeouts and 60 percent fewer commercials, with the league aiming for an approximate real-time game length of 150 minutes, down from just over 180 in the NFL.
All teams must attempt two-point conversions after each touchdown; there will be no extra point kicks.
here will be no kickoffs; all possessions will begin on each team's own 25-yard line, the same as touchbacks in the NFL and NCAA. In lieu of an onside kick, a team can keep possession of the ball by attempting a scrimmage play from their own 35-yard line and gaining at least 10 yards.
The play clock will run only 30 seconds, 10 seconds shorter than in the NFL.
Two coach's challenges per team are the only replays.
Outside organizations will handle head-safety protocols
Okay, y'all talk it over while I... finish my first round of drinks.
What? We’re getting an Alliance of American Football team here in San Antonio?
First I’ve heard of that. Wonder what that is?
Oh well, We have plenty of middle school football fields they can use to play on. Some of them can seat up to a hundred fans. Which is twice the number they may need.

when does the Lingerie Football league play? I’m just sayin’.
Mike Riley is a .500 coach at best.
"This is supposed to be more of an NFL developmental league. They can contract with NFL teams to use their practice squad players and the other 40 players that typically get cut from a team during preseason. Their season will not interfere with any NFL offseason programs or OTAs and the players will be free to sign with an NFL team."
So it will not be expected to be on the level of the NFL or CFL but it is still football and could be very entertaining.
Who is going to broadcast the games?
Mike Riley as in fail Nebraska football coach Mike Riley?
“Gadzooks— If this league make it, a football fan can watch the sport near all year round with this Alliance of American Football going from Feb until April, then the Canadian Football League season from June to Thanksgiving in late November augmenting the college and pro game in the US—”
I see it as an alternative to the National Felons League and the cry-baby protestors. I hope that this new league makes it and runs the National Felons League out of business then let’s see who protests.
Read the article. It was posted precisely to answer this and other germane questions.
No major markets there, and only two cities that are also in the NFL. I wonder how they plan to succeed without New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
I heard on WOAI that they will play in the AlamoDome.
They might as well. Besides a few preseason high school football games, and the annual Alamo bowl, theres nobody to play football in that football stadium.
One in the same.
I wonder if this will offset the contract payout that he is receiving from NU for being let go.
Frost Warning this fall is coming...
