Bubbas have Brains

His name was Bubba, he was from Mississippi ... And he had a problem....

So... He walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the loan Officer. He told the loan officer that he was going to Paris for an International redneck festival for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000; and that he was not a depositor of the bank.

The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out.

The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest.

Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the South for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan.

An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it.

Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dunn & Bradstreet and found that you are a Distinguished Alumni from Ole Miss University, a highly sophisticated investor and Multi-Millionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. Your investments include a large number of wind turbines around Sweetwater, Texas.

What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"

The good 'ole boy replied, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?"

His name was BUBBA....

Keep an eye on those southern boys!

Just because we talk funny does not mean we are stupid.

“Just because we talk funny does not mean we are stupid.”

Southerners accent is no more funny than various north east dialects; say, Boston, Philly, etc, talk like their mouths are full of mush....

A good story, but in the real world he would probably also have to pay: Bank Registration Fees $100, ID Check Fees $200, Loan Security Credit Check Fees $300, Early Loan Redemption Fees $400 etc etc; and then when he went to collect the car, discovered that some junior clerk had taken it out for a spin and wrapped it round some street sign!

Reminds me of a report I saw some years ago about the idiocy at Rome’s airport at the time. Their parking fees were so high that people figured out an easy way around them: They’d just park their cars illegally and have them towed. It was cheaper that way. LOL.

Funny story. Started my day off with a smile. Thanks.

I was not born in the South but I've lived there several times in my life and currently am retired in the South. I know a couple of "Bubbas" who could run intellectual circles around those snobbish northeastern liberal elites.

When I was in the mortgage banking business, we had a saying of sorts.

If you owed the bank $1,000 and couldn't pay, you were in trouble.

But if you owed the bank $100 million and couldn't pay, the bank was in trouble.

The bank in your story got "Bubba'd" as we say down here.

Spent some time in NYC back in the day - I still remember ads from people in Manhattan offering garage parking spaces for rent at monthly rates greater than the rents for luxury apartments I’d seen advertised in the Southern city I had been living in.

Well, in 1980, I was living in Ardsley, NY, finishing high school, and my mother came to visit and wanted to see a show in NYC. I told her we should take the train, but she insisted that I drive her. It was a Friday night, and while I no longer recall how much I paid in tolls, I do remember it cost $50 to park (remember, this is 1980!) for 4 hours.

It is a great joke though.
