Venezuela's hyperinflation at new dizzying high
AFP ^ | June 11, 2018 | Staff

Venezuela's sky-high inflation soared to 24,571 percent in the past 12 months, lawmakers said Monday.

President Nicolas Maduro's socialist government controls most of the country's economy and is in the midst of an ever-deepening crisis with food and medicine in short supply.

Analysts blame what they call mismanagement of a state-led economy. That includes its control over hard currency, as well as low oil prices. Venezuela depends on crude oil for its earnings.

Only 24,571%? Come on Maduro you can do better. You are still many zeroes behind Mugabe.

Proof that time travel will never be a thing. Otherwise, a time traveler could come back and short the currency and make a fortune. Imagine if someone shorted Zimbabwe dollars and parlayed that into shorting the Bolivar...

All they need to do is to raise taxes and the issue will go away.

WTF is wrong with the Venezuela Government anyway?

If they only had a $15.00 minimum wage none of this would have happened.

Venezuela depends on crude oil for its earnings.

And their number one customer is /was US. CITGO is a Venezuelan government owned corporation. Venezuelan oil is high in sulfur and other contaminates and is super thick. We are practically the only country in the world that has refineries to handle it. I heard that China was modifying their refineries to use it but that takes time and money........................

inflation soared to 24,571 percent

That's a completely meaningless number. What 24,571 percent really means is that Venezuela's money is nonsense and people only work/trade at the barrel of a gun. Their economy is a command economy where socialist bullets are the motivator. Thanks to Bernie and his followers, we could find out what that's like within a few years after President Trump leaves office. I pray that Trump will permanently solve as many problems as possible to push that civil war far into our future.

For decades, Lagovan asphalt from Vz was the preferred roofing flux for making shingles in the US. Millions of tons of the stuff were delivered in tankers to the south and east coast and went into virtually all shingle makers’ products. The Vens discovered they could charge a premium for the asphalt, but then the revolutionaries had a better idea.
Blend the stuff off and sell it to China at a lower netback.

A Socialist breakthrough !

Proof that time travel will never be a thing.

Well...it is...sort of.

As one travels faster towards the speed of light, time 'dilates' and slows down for the traveler. This has been proven and done.

However, traveling to the past would be impossible.

They just need more central government, and this will work itself out.

VZ is like AZ. The voters keep voting for the guy.

Maduro is a dictator and the elections are always going to come out in his favor, no matter how the voters voted. That's why he is a dictator.

Arizona, on the other hand, does keep voting for McCain and now they have a near-dead guy and a Flake representing them in the Senate.

“Analysts blame what they call mismanagement of a state-led economy.”

Is there any other kind of management of a state-led economy?

Here in Florida, and along the Gulf Coast of the US generally, asphalt shingles are going away in favor of metal roofs, because of hurricanes.

A friend of mine had a new Caddy back in 2004 during Ivan and it looked like someone had taken 80 grit sandpaper to the paint job after the hurricane, from blown off shingles from all over the neighborhood........

My house has a metal roof and so do most of our neighbors now.

Why doesn’t Bernie Sanders visit Venezuela and explain to Maduro what he is doing wrong? For that matter where are Jimmy Carter, Sean Penn , Susan Sarandon and Danny Glover when you need them ? Michael Moore has a legitimate excuse not to visit. Due to his enormous caloric needs, it would be cruel for him to visit a food challenged land.
