Belmont Stakes 2018: Time, TV schedule, post positions for 'Third Jewel of the Triple Crown’

Can Justify win the Triple Crown after taking the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness?

The 150th running of the Belmont Stakes is set for Saturday, and a Triple Crown is on the line with Justify coming off wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The race is set to get underway with a post time of 6:37 p.m. ET.

Television coverage of the race will be carried by NBC, which begins pre-race coverage at 5 p.m. Further pre-race coverage can be found at NBC Sports from 3 p.m. Online streaming of the race will be handled by NBC Sports or a streaming service that carries NBC, such as fuboTV.

The Grade I stakes race with a purse of $1.5 million obviously has a lot on the line, including nine other horses that want nothing more than to ruin Justify’s chance at the Triple Crown. The last Triple Crown winner was American Pharoah in 2015, and before that a total of 37 years went by without a horse winning the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont in a row.

Justify will start from the first post, which isn’t necessarily an advantage, but there have been 23 winners from said post in the past. Bravazo and Hofburg, widely considered the top competition for Justify, will start third and fourth, respectively.

Bob Baffert is Justify’s trainer, while Mike Smith is the jockey. Baffert also trained American Pharoah in 2015.

Below, you can see the full post position lineup for the 10-horse field.

2018 Belmont Stakes post positions

1. Justify 2. Free Drop Billy 3. Bravazo 4. Hofburg 5. Restoring Hope 6. Gronkowski 7. Tenfold 8. Vino Rosso 9. Noble Indy 10. Blended Citizen

And below is all you need to know to watch the action.

Date: Saturday, June 9

Location: Belmont Park, Elmont, New York

Post time: 6:37 p.m. (approx)

TV: NBC (from 5 p.m., more pre-race coverage on NBCSN from 3 p.m.)

I’m betting on Soros to win with his horse. One way or another.

If they kept racing there’s a chance of injury and losing the stud fees.

I’d like to see Mike Smith win the Triple Crown .... he’s riding Justify so there’s a good chance he’ll get Justify there in front of everyone else.

Smith has had a knee and hip replacement, plus come back from bad injuries suffered during races. He works incredibly hard. He’s already had a great career and a Triple Crown win for him would be well-deserved.

Soros’ horse Justify. I will be pulling for any other to win.

I have mixed feelings about Justify. Pro — he looks a little like Secretariat and Secretariat is way back in his pedigree.
I like Mike Smith, who is a Christian.
But, Justify doesn’t seem to have the pedigree to go the distance as far as close-up ancestors. (Hope I am wrong). Big question mark there.
And then there is a connection to the reptilian, repugnant George Soros. Ick factor can’t be quantified.

Thanks for posting. I’m betting against Justify, but don’t mind if he goes on to win the triple crown. I’ll be watching.

Off topic , but why do so many horses retire after the triple crown series of races? I don’t follow racing, but I hear they are at their peak as three year olds, run for the triple crown, then retire.”””

Because their value as a breeding stallion is very high at that point. Not worth harming the horse in more races when each mare’s breeding fee is easily $100,000 per cover. Most stallions are also insured against them being sterile. Cigar was sterile....no babies by him.

Thorobreds still do LIVE COVER-—No collection of semen & artificial insemination by the Veterinarian.

Other breeds do AI & also do ‘embryo flushing’ so the same mare & stud can produce more than one baby per year.

I’m putting loot on Limousine Liberal in the Met Mile. The question remains - will it just take the cash and run away with it?

I’m not interested either. We will be at a restaurant where they serve great Margaritas! I might have one or two.
NFL, and an hour hype for a 2 minute race? I can’t “justify” wasting my time on either of them!

Soros and Goodell, both on my shit list.

Stud fees from a healthy horse are much greater than an injured horse that had to be destroyed is my guess.

Same reason Olympians retire after getting a gold. It would be embarrassing after that to lose a whole bunch. And your value goes down also.
