Louisiana slave law: more humane than Trump's border policy | Opinion(barf bag overflow)

More than a few people have connected Donald Trump's decision to tear apart families seeking asylum at our southern border to the history of American slave-owners separating parents and children for whatever reason they saw fit. It's not the most perfect analogy -- at least not in this state. Because slave-holding Louisiana, believe it or not, had a law against separating enslaved mothers and their young children.

"And be it further enacted," Section 9 of Louisiana's 1806 Code Noir (Black Code) reads, "That every person is expressly prohibited from selling separately from their mothers, the children who shall not have attained the full age of ten years." During 2015's Purchased Lives exhibit at The Historic New Orleans Collection, curator Erin Greenwald said a shipment of 11 children for sale without their parents arrived in New Orleans via the brig Ajax and that the diminutive heights listed on the ship's manifest suggest that some were described as older just to circumvent Louisiana law.

But, still. There was a prohibition on the books.

On Thursday (June 7) The New York Times published a story featuring Jose, a 5-year-old from Honduras who was taken away from his father at the border. The woman assigned to care for the boy in Michigan said Jose cried himself to sleep the first few nights and that the crying was eventually replaced with "just moaning and moaning."

If an 1806 Louisiana law prohibited an enslaved child under 10 from being sold away from his father or mother, and there are reports of children half as young and younger being separated from their parents in 2018, then that means Louisiana's slave law was more humane.

The Trump administration is full of people who the prophet Jeremiah describes as having "no shame at all;they do not even know how to

Oh my God. How low can they go. The dreaded slave angle has been trotted out with religious platitudes.

A new talking point?

The Progressives must have put this in front of a focus group and it was decided to push separating families as a way to stop deportations.

A word Mr.Jarvis DeBerry we do not care. Besides, the fence being build is not the Berlin Wall keeping people in. The family is free to leave with the illegal when deported.

As far as separating families, what have you to say to the families that have lost loved ones at the hands of these invaders? No sympathy for them?

Ignorant writer. First of all, this became the practice under Obama - there’s no law requiring it - but it was a practice developed to protect minors in the event that their parents were being deported, particularly if the minors had been born here. Rather than just dump them into the general holding pen if their parents had already been caught in an enforcement action, they were sent to special youth facilities. The policy was developed by ICE and I fail to see how something meant to protect them was a bad thing.

Blacks before slavery, many did not have nuclear families. They still don’t. More of a tribal back ground.

You have to hand it to the Democrats though, their policies kept the black population fully employed until at least 1860.

The angle here is to equate the border with racism.

Illegals = slaves because they’re non-white (for the most part)

The Left is working a new meme: because the border keeps out primarily non-whites, it’s a racist construct

If you buy this then it’s a short jump to the conclusion that it’s a civil right to enter the United States...but only if you’re non-white.

The Mexican government and now the other Central American governments have picked up on this line as well and depict themselves as “victims” of the Evil Gringo responsible for the destitution of their countries. That they are responsible for their own fate never enters the discussion.

Well, Louisiana is following the crowd of idiots. Slave law?

Will they now jail children in the Angola Pen along with their mother so not to separate?

Enough of this craziness.

I am married and have children and grandchildren that are half Mexican and 3/4 Mexican. If I commit a crime I should not be thrown in jail because it would separate me from my family. That is their logic and their logic is irrational logic. In fact there is no logic in their logic.

In my home both Spanish and English is spoken but the prevailing language is English. One grand kid can speak Spanish and the other can not. They are Americans first and just happen to have Mexican ancestry. My home is a true melting pot that turned out conservative patriotic Americans.

ps
The Mexican blood in my family is from LEGAL immigrants.

I don’t want slavery. I have no desire to own a slave.

What I want is a determined effort to prevent ILLEGAL ALIENS from entering the country ILLEGALLY. If you are willing to enter this country ILLEGALLY, how many other laws of this country are you willing to cast aside & ignore?

There are LEGAL ways to become a citizen of this country. Pursue these ways and join us. Become a law abiding citizen and a productive member of society.

“....Oh my God. How low can they go....”

Well, since liberalism is a chronic, no-cure mental disease that brings on insanity, violence and depravity in those infected by it, the depth of their violent depravity knows no bounds. It just depends on just how rotted out their brains have become with the onset of the disease. With that said, no one knows how low they can go, but it’s probably well beyond our sane imaginations. They belong in state mental institutions...guarded, under lock & key, not out making public statements and/or policy. We call em “The Walking Democrats” in these parts.

It’s a pity the media is ignoring all the “caged children” photographed while obama was president while trying to pin it on Trump.

Reminds me of a Estonian guy I met at a remodel job. He was tall, blond, blue eyed, well built, smart, working a legitimate job and came here legally. He was in danger of being sent back. He was everything we did not want.

His employer was trying to sponsor him, what ever that means. The employer was probably trying to get the guy to marry his dumb daughter. Now that is pure rumor and speculation on my part.

We need sub-tropical Orks with room temperature IQs according to the Rat/RINO uniparty.

Easier to control.
