Investigators are searching for a man and woman accused of theft after they took a television from the shelf at an Algiers pawn shop and sold it back to the store, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The duo, identified by the NOPD as Don Adams, 32, and Dana Francois-Carter, 38, was captured on surveillance camera during the Thursday afternoon (May 31) theft, police said.

The theft occurred about 5:20 p.m. at a pawn shop in the 1600 block of Newton Street. Adams and Francois-Carter entered the shop, and then Carter walked to the electronics aisle and took a television from the shelf, the NOPD said. She was then seen removing the price stickers from the television.

Francois-Carter brought the television to the front counter, where Adams then pawned it for $175--using his ID card to make the deal, police said.

Well the couple were smart enough to realize they would never make it out the door with the tv so they "re-pawned" it. Guy was dumb enough to use his real ID.

People use to try to do this scam at walmart all the time. Sometimes it worked. Out one door and in the other. Literally.

My daughter works in the customer service area for a large home center like Walmart. She said it’s amazing what people try to get away with, and succeed.

She said some lady lied about her and was getting loud and obnoxious. She was a little miffed when the store manager gave the lady a $10 gift card even though they knew she was lying. I told her it was just GO AWAY money.

Her last day is next week. She has a new job lined up in the field she wants to make a career at.

A woman did that at a store- Tuesday Morning - just before I stopped in a couple of years ago. The woman brought it up to the counter and got a store credit and left. When the employee went to put it back on the shelf, there was an empty slot with an identical one next to it.

She was furious but I don’t think there was anything she could do other than to file a complaint.

OTOH, a neighbor’s son got charged with shoplifting months after he stole a $1.99 t shirt - I think the tore used facial recognition software to charge him.

Must be a large scale pawnshop. $175 for a used TeeVee these days buys a pretty big one!

An elderly woman fell down in the “in” doorway of our local Wal Mart some time back.
While checkers and others were distracted, her husband rolled a cart full of groceries through the “out” door and was never arrested...

We had that problem with electronics. The walmart would call someone from electronics up when someone was returning a high dollar item.

One time this lady brought an old tv back in a new box to return. The electronics guy told her he could tell by the model/sn that it was 3 years old. The lady threw a fit and insisted she had just bought it. The manager caved and gave her the refund.

X-box 360. Take home, remove insides, place insides in old x-box 360, put old insides in new x-box 360 and return.

We had some Chinese student from Texas going around buying laptops, removing the insides, filling the laptop with SAND, weighing the laptop to get it right, professionally resealing the laptops in packaging so you could not tell the box had been opened and returning. They hit up places along the gulf coast from Texas to Florida. They caught them here where I live. Not the store I worked at mind you but a nearby store. They got my store for three. Cheeky Chinese.

I got stories about stories. T-bone in the pants stories.

See post 4.

I almost lasted 3 years at a Walmart store with a "high end (snicker)" clientèle. I got some stories.

T-bone in the pants stories.

Customers object when you try to put those back on the shelf.

This thread suddenly has become relevant to my interests.

My story: I worked at a restaurant. They caught a guy waddling out with lobster tails stuffed in his socks. He was wincing from the pain of the little pokey parts digging into his calves.

Note to self: were 2 pairs of thick socks!
