This ain’t Disney in so many ways.
One, Star Wars isn’t Disney. Yeah, they bought it, they now own it. But Disney didn’t create it.
Two, Even if Disney had created it, Disney didn’t make sequel after sequel squeezing whatever could be gotten out of something. Walt Disney always went on to new things and didn’t do sequels, with few exceptions, e.g. Three Little Pigs, which he recognized as inferior and exploitive.
They should have waited about three to four years before releasing this. It’s like iphone coming out too close together and too similar in appearance or function.
A 45% drop is unbelievably massive for a franchise like Star Wars. The damage Disney has done to it, on top of the damage Lucas did to it with the prequel trilogy, has also killed the nostalgia for this GenXer as well.
Had Star Wars not become infected by Communists I would have been the first person in line at the theater. Now? I won’t even watch it for free, because I know it will be political propaganda with poor writing and acting, and way way way too much dependence on CGI graphics to carry the show.
Rogue One was the best Star Wars movie since “The Empire Strikes Back”. I went in expecting the worst from this first Disney project and was blown away.
I’m fine with Disney cranking out all the silly Star Wars sequels they want to, since every now and then someone just might manage to make a brilliant movie in spite of the corporate group-think.
One of the young men at our church who is a BIG Star Wars fan put out a text that stated his elderly grandmother passed away earlier this week but after seeing the new Solo movie last night, his grandma’s passing is only the second worst experience of the week. Just passing it on.....
Not a bad opening considering its up against a couple of monster movies out there right now (IW and DP2).
It is called going to the well too many times.
Saw it for free.
I was overcharged.
“I’m shocked!” Said by no one.
As I heard one DJ say today, you already know they come through everything OK, so where’s any suspense?
I saw it this afternoon. I enjoyed it. I thought the actor that played Han did a good job of evoking Harrison Ford’s Solo in some moments. I was entertained and I think most Star Wars fans will like it. I have to say I like Rogue One and TFA and TLJ a little more, but all the new ones are so much better than the old one with the ewoks that I am happy enough.
