Over the last 3 or 4 (and more) years my car insurance was between 800$ and 950$ a year. Went up a bit and would go down a bit. Thats for 2 cars and 2 drivers. Not sure if I should name the company. Then the bill for the last half of '18 came in and it went up to $1300 a year. Thats like a 44% or more increase. Anybody else see a staggering increase like this? Is $1300 a year ($110 a month) normal?
2. Any claims in the last year?
3. Any other changes in the policy?
Progressive, right?
My Auto-Owners Car/home Ins. went up. But not by that much! Check with them. Or AMICA if either writes ins. in your state.
Ours in Nebraska with 2 drivers and 2 older cars (older drivers for that matter) runs about $145/month.
Possibly there were large hail damage claims in your area in the past year or so?
Can you ask about increasing your deductible to reduce the premium? No accidents or tickets in the past year?
If 15 minutes save me 15 percent, should I talk to them for 100 minutes?
Unless you name the company any comments would be useless and even thinking about it would be a complete waste of time. And anyway name them unless you fear them.
yes. but supposedly in very high-claims areas, not known as Texas Hill Country.
methinks the insurance companies are ripping us off.
but you may save... by asking for discounts....
one possibility is ... if you drive a car under 7500 miles per year, some companies will discount.. and if you are willing to report your mileage every year or maybe twice.... they may discount more. ask about other kinds of discounts too....good driver, etc. and check to make sure you aren’t paying a lot for coverages that isn’t useful or wont pay off (such as perhaps if your car is older ... SnakeFarm and probably some other insurance companies may not pay you much at all if it gets wrecked)
Check with AAA Insurance in Texas. We have that and we reviewed nine different company policies just five months ago.
too many variables to make any meaningful comment.
In Houston, my rate was much higher than now, living in rural North Texas. Rates have been low and stable. My insurance agent even commented on both our home and auto insurance that we are in a sweet spot, age, location, etc and that our rates are much lower than almost all his other clients.
Geico bill 79.00. Everyone else wants 200 plus a month.
. No tickets. No accidents for over 20 years except I rolled back into a car almost a year ago. No one in the car. One front quarter panel damaged. Maybe 1200 in damage. Now everyone wants 2 to 3 thousands a year.
Look for an A Rated company by Best.
An A rating means they are financially sound.
Also check out JD Power awards for their claim service.
Good luck.
Yeah, same thing happened to me last year.
I had been a customer of Farmers Insurance for 25 years, never had a claim, never had a ticket, and they had a huge raise in my fee. And in my home insurance with them too; that also went up about 25%,
I went in talked to the agent, reduced my coverage on both vehicles and my house in town. Then six months later, they raised the amount of the coverages back up to what they were before, and raised the prices even higher.
So, I went to State Farm... Got the same coverage for about 25% less than what I was paying two years ago.
No claims or changes in the policy that I know of.
You are paying for all of those Illegal Alien drivers who don’t need no steenking car insurance.
2008 Mazda CX-7 and a ‘16 Kia Soul Plus.
No accidents or tickets and the deductible is at $1000, the max I think.
We used to have AAA (10 years). We switched over to Texas Farm Bureau and got a much better deal. You may want to shop around.
I was with state farm for 35 yrs, had a claim in 2014 and they acted like I was robbing the bank. Rates were jacked and coverage was diminished. switched to another local group, but keeping my options open.
OK, Costco insurance, IDS Property Casualty Ins Co.
