Your liberal Hollywood buddies who run the studios have a problem with female directors, Jodie.
Ahh, no Jodie. They only have a problem with YOU.
I dont have a problem with them. Take your complaint to the Customer Service Desk. Tell Harv I said hello.
Man, that movie stunk on ice.
Funny, I thought it was lesbians who have a problem with men. Go figure...
“’I said it and I’ll keep saying it I want to direct,’ Foster explained to The Hollywood Reporter. ‘And I will direct more than I acted.’”
I get so tired of hearing famous actors and actresses whine about not being able to direct. There is a reason why studios and investors do not turn over the reigns of production to celebrity actors and actresses. Because when they do, they invite their friends and the set turns into drug-fueled orgies, and production gets off schedule and over budget. And then the studios have to step in and exercise the completion bond to finish the project which will always be garbage at this point. Just ask Heather Graham how her “Half Magic” debut went.
But that’s not why Jodie Foster’s complaint is so irritating. Maybe she is more responsible and would get the job done right. But why does she need permission from the studios to make a movie? Foster has millions. She can easily bankroll a film and direct it.
Directing is a different skill set than acting. ALL successful directors started small and worked their way up to bigger films. Look at Christopher Nolan. He did three short films. Then he did “Following” for $6000. Based on his success with that film he was able to secure $9 Million to do “Memento”. Based on that success he was able to move up to big budget films with over $100 Million budgets.
That’s right. He became one of the select few directors in Hollywood entrusted with budgets of more than $100 Million after only two successful features. And one of them was a micro-budget film.
The problem is that aspiring celebrity directors want to just step into the role of big budget director without paying their dues. If you want to direct, spend a few thousand dollars of your own money and make a film. Prove how good you are. Then the studios will be lining up to finance your big blockbuster, or even the small, personal drama you may want to make.
Now in Foster’s case, she has already directed a few features. And none of them have made big money. If she wants to get the studios to bankroll her films, she needs to show them how profitable she can be. Otherwise, she should be ready to put her money where her mouth is and finance her own projects.
When I watch a great movie, I could give a rat’s ass the sex of the producers or Director invoved. I love the movie “Big”. I almost never give it a thought Penny Marshall directed it, but when I do, my only thought is what a terrific job she did.
Sophia Copolla’s “Somewhere” is one of my favorite films. I typically hate this kind of movie, but it was so brilliantly directed, it has pbecome a favorite.
You bet it did....senseless and waste of time! I’m sorrry I watched it!
Sounds like she is saying Hollywood is a mess.
What’s wrong with people that think someone should just be given something because they are female?
When and if I can find a movie that is worth watching the director/producer usually do not even make my radar. I could care less. About the only director/producers I would give crap about is Eastwood and Mel Gibson, otherwise woman, man, it, who cares.
Poor Jodie, she seems to think everyone worries about whether these movie people have a penis or vagina and that dictates how one must feel about them or their movies. What a sad creature she has become.
“”Well count you in the 5% that probably doesnt give women a bad name.””
Thanks - I think. There are many days when I think women shouldn’t even have been given the right to vote. Could we possibly manage to have it taken away from a whole list of them? Not even necessary to name them. We all know who they are; all ugly and all democrat politicians!
Psssh.
I am woman hear me bore.
Jodie's problem was more that Hollywood had a problem with Mel Gibson, so the movie that was going to be a big comeback for both of them tanked.
The way I heard it, the puppet was an anti-Semite or something.
Generally if a movie is coming out, I like to know the director. They pretty much make the movies look and feel; so Id like to know who they are.
They made a similar movie about trannies getting dedicated bathrooms. A Leak of Their Own.
