Plans for Ohio's Only New Coal Plant Are Scrapped

After years in limbo, a plan to construct a new coal plant has been scrapped.

That leaves Ohio without any proposals for new coal-power generation. Environmental groups see this as a critical turning point.

Since the early 2000s, the Lima energy plant has been on again and off again. But now the company behind the project is officially bowing out.

Neil Waggoner with the Beyond Coal campaign says it’s clear coal is near its end.

“We see there are no coal plants under consideration to be built. The current coal plants that are already in the state are struggling to be economic and are in a number of cases, seeking customer-funded bailouts,” Waggoner said.

Utilities have pleaded with lawmakers to help subsidize their financially struggling coal plants, saying it’s an important resource that helps diversify the grid.

Fracking, the ultimate evil is making natural gas so cheap that coal can't compete.

The enviro-nuts are ecstatic that coal will the way of the steam engine. But don't think that they will stop fighting to make Fracking illegal.

The price of natural gas has been historically volatile.

So, when the price of gas goes back up there will be no coal plants to pick up the slack and a lot of people will shiver in the dark.

The US is the Saudi Arabia of coal. There’s no reason why coal shouldn’t play an important role in this nation’s economy.None whatsoever!

Unlike other sources, coal doesn’t need as much expensive parts to generate power.

They don’t stockpile 60 days of natural gas in case of a disruption.

LOL, tell that to the Chinese and a dozen or more other countries around the world. They are using EVERYTHING they can burn to produce electricity.

From the mind of a needle head liberal.

Coal would have been struggling to compete with gas anyway but the regulations that came out in the Obama years put a ball and chain on the ankles of coal. It is no longer a fair race.

Calling Carbon Dioxide a pollutant is just insane.

What they don't mention are the subsidies that solar and wind energy receives, and that those energies NEED fossil fuel and nuke energy transmissions to sustain them.

They will just fight whatever fuel source it is. Thats how they scrape a living off productive people and society.

The generation of electricity with coal and nuclear is becoming unprofitable.

Some big utilities actually want to get out of the generation business totally and only transmit/deliver electricity because the government guarantees that they will make a profit.

So, generation and transmission are ultimately being forced to become separate businesses. You will buy your electricity from one company and it will be delivered by someone else.

When coal and nuclear are gone prices will rise and the grid will become unstable. Rolling brown/black outs will be the norm for summer and people will die because they don’t have air conditioning during heat waves.

I beg to differ, they stock pile Natural Gas in storage faculties all around the country. Gas goes into storage because there is not enough burn on the pipeline so they park it in storage until there is a need.

I've visited mainland China several times...including twice in the last 5 years.I can assure this eco-terrorist that the clearest day,air pollution-wise,that I saw there was 10 times worse than anything I've ever seen in the Ruhr Valley, the tri-state area of NYC,the industrial Midwest or the LA Basin.

EXACTLY

When that happens, we'll be just like Puerto Rico

So why isn’t coal being used more as an energy source in the Trump era? Are states trying to regulate it?

Let them build windmills and solar farms and then sit sweltering or freezing in darkened homes and businesses whenever the wind doesn’t blow or the sun doesn’t shine

All this means is that the right people like Soros don't yet own enough of the coal in the ground and the mining companies. As soon as the right fat cats have what they want you can bet coal will once again be used in new power plants.

You could be right.

But making CO2, mercury, micro-particulates and all of the demonized emissions of coal safe again would be a mighty accomplishment even for George Soros.

I figure they already have a patented means reduce the cost of cleaning up coal enough to meet any regs that exist or they'll out the very same fraudsters they've been spreading to lie about CO2 being a pollutant.

There may be some patented method everyone shrugged off which when added to what people already know, you have an entirely new approach that solves an "insoluble" problem.

I'm just sure Soros and other big players buying coal and coal related assets isn't because of the green in green energy. As always, it's because of the green in huge profits.

Regards
