It’s “Duane” Allman. And every member of the Allman Brothers Band was integral to their sound. Listen to “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” on the live “Fillmore East” album for an example.
Fantastic rhythm section, Gregg’s keyboards and vocals, and the incomparable twin guitars of Betts and Duane made ABB one of the greatest bands ever.
My favorite!
ditto
saw them in 69 70 and 71...everytime they came to town.
really enjoyed Dwayne Allman’s guitar...just stunning.
You can hear his genius on Layla...played with Clapton.
Duane...apologies
How about that lead singer - little dude, long-ass hair and platform shoes - he was a gas.
Saw them a few times in the 70's - Great rock & roll band.

Is that Betts with the white hat & the long solo?
Jim Dandy! Their big thing was smashing there guitars together at the end of the last encore song.
False on both. Gregg wrote “Melissa” well before Duane died, in fact they (the brothers)recorded it as a demo in 1968 before the Allman Brothers Band was formed. Gregg has stated many times it was Duane’s favorite song that Gregg had written.
The name came from a funny source. Gregg had the song written, but was struggling with the name. One day he was in a grocery store and there was a young girl running around in the store and her mother called out to her to come back, and child’s name was Melissa. At that moment Gregg had his name for the song.
Duane only named one of his guitars, naming it “Hot ‘Lanta.”
Thanks. Nice way to start the morning.
I loved Arlo Guthrie, City of New Orleans is one of my all time favorites.......Thanks for the link, I watched several others there too. I never knew he played with his family in the later years.
I’m envious. I didn’t get to UF until the tale end of the 80s.
Thanks friend!
Heck of a way to complete the morning.
AMEN; Dittos
Do you remember if Revolver also played that show? They would have been early in the show.
No. I never saw Revolver in concert.
Thanks for the ping! Back when music was music.
This one is still my favorite:
Crossroads, seem to come and go, yeah.
The gypsy flies from coast to coast,
Knowing many, loving none,
Bearing sorrow, having fun.
But, back home he’ll always run,
To sweet Melissa.
And my second favorite:
Of all the better things I’ve heard
Loving you has made the words
And all the rest seem so absurd
‘Cause in the end it all comes out, I’m sure

They were great back in the day! (Two sets of brothers.)
They stayed pretty tight even in their latter years.
Id rather hear Revolver play, Let Me Roll It, than Paul McCartney.
