Margot Kidder 'Superman' Star Dead at age 69

Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in "Superman," died Sunday in Montana ... TMZ has learned.

Margot was at her home when she passed away, according to the spokesperson at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT. The cause of death is unknown at this point.

Bruce Becker, the Park County Attorney, tells TMZ ... an unknown person called police to report Margot was unconscious and not breathing. Police responded and found her dead. The death is now under investigation.

Margot starred opposite Christopher Reeve in 1978's "Superman," and also in the 3 sequels. She continued acting right up until this year, taking small roles in TV shows and movies -- but also had stage roles ... including "The Vagina Monologues" on Broadway. She reportedly had 2 more roles yet to be released.

Margot had a very public battle with bipolar disorder for years. During her struggle she was briefly homeless in 1996. Margot became an advocate for mental health after that incident.

She'd been married 3 times, although she'd been single since the '80s.

Margot is survived by a daughter.

RIP

True! But I still think the gag is hilarious, especially Reeves’ slightly annoyed expression when he sees the so-called booth.

Lois helicopter accident

This has to be my favorite scene of any superhero movie. Margo Kidder isn't a feminist icon here, she is there to be rescued. But still, she sells how terrifying it would be to be sliding off the edge of a building. Its a great scene for Superman, but Margo is really the one that creates the tension.

All these years and I thought it was Margot Kidder instead of Karen Allen in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Wow, so much love for MK here! Usually all we get is how she WASN’T pretty ipso facto the worst Lois.

First, I personally don’t think she was that pretty, but she was definitely the best Lois. She exuded confidence and brass that made her believable as a tough woman, unlike the more recent ones which are all about pretty and low on strength (as usual with modern women...the classic movie era beats out modern for truly tough women, too, despite the seeming paradox).

They do have a similarity, including actually seeming tough unlike most movie women.
