SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Family members confirmed to KSLA News 12 the identity of the young boy killed in a shooting Thursday night.
Twyla Smith says she is the grandmother of 4-year-old Messiah Murphy who was shot to death around 11 p.m.
Police say they got a call from a woman saying she was in front of the police station with a young child in her car who had been shot.
Investigators believe the shooting took place in the 100 block of North Pierre Avenue near the intersection of Buena Vista Street, according to SPD Corporal Angie Willhite. They also think two different weapons were used because they found 2 different types of shell casings.
It's believed that's where the child suffered a gunshot wound to the head after a gunman in another vehicle fired into the victim's car.
After Murphy was shot the woman reportedly drove to the police station.
The four-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not confirmed the name of the child at this time.
Police say two adults and two children were in the car at the time but no other injuries were reported.

Indeed. So sad...
Gang or drugs or both.
Savages.
I recently moved here to Louisiana permanently after residing in Maine for a decade or so . I am in Mandeville and crime is not here . From what I can gather after visiting and working down here two other times over the past six years is that usually New Orleans and Baton Rouge are the areas to just kind of drive through or do your business in the day time , otherwise this state is pretty nice . My heart goes out to this young boy as he did nothing except exist .
Whoever built that Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company right by the Oak Harbor exit was not thinking.
Arrest granny for child abuse.
If she cared about the child, she would have taken it to the hospital for treatment, not the police station for publicity.
That is really not unusual in some rural areas. The police can get a chopper there that takes some time off getting to a trauma center.
Probably not applicable here. But it does happen in some places.
and the family is left hanging with a huge bill. If you can hang on, don’t use a chopper. The bill is outrageous and insurance does not cover it.
My Dad was choppered twice. Blue cross blue shield. Cost him $200.
friends were caught with a multi thousand bill a couple of years ago.
If she cared about the child, she would have taken it to the hospital for treatment, not the police station for publicity.
WTF are you babbling about?
It used to be gangs shot each over over the drug trade. These days thugs kill each other over facebook posts, petty slights, or just looking at them funny. Sometimes, it's simply for recreation or out of boredom.
God this is sick. RIP little one.
Ouch...

The Blues wouldn't pay a third of the cost when the Dallas fire department paramedics checked me out one time. And the city didn't even send me a balance bill - they sent it straight to an out of state collection agency.
And I wasn't even the one who called them - some stranger did that while I was unconscious. No telling what the cost would have been if I had let them take me to the hospital.
