Felony charges against 62 more bikers in the 2015 Twin Peaks shootout were dismissed Tuesday, the largest of several rounds of recent dismissals.
Judge Ralph Strother of 19th State District Court signed dismissals requested by the McLennan County District Attorney's office for 42 cases Tuesday morning, which stated it was dismissing the cases to focus on "more culpable" defendants.
Tuesday afternoon Judge Matt Johnson signed an additional 20 dismissals in the 54th State District Court, bringing the day's total to 62 cases.
"I was very happy to sign the dismissals," Judge Strother said Tuesday.
With the dismissals, only about one-third of those originally arrested in the Twin Peaks incident are still facing charges.
The May 17, 2015 shootout between rival Cossacks and Bandidos motorcycle clubs in the parking lot of Waco's Twin Peaks restaurant left nine dead and 20 wounded. On that day, 177 people were arrested at the direction of District Attorney Abel Reyna, facing identical charges of engaging in organized criminal activity on underlying charges of murder and aggravated assault.
After the incident, 155 bikers were indicted, but 117 of those have now been dismissed, leaving 38 still under indictment. Only one defendant, Jacob Carrizal, a Bandido chapter president from Dallas, has been tried in the shootout, and his case ended in a mistrial in November. His retrial is set for Sept. 10 in 54th State District Court.
Among those dismissed Tuesday were Christopher Julian Carrizal, father of Jacob Carrizal. The elder Carrizal was wounded in the shootout.

The prosecutor should spend the rest of his natural life in an 8x12 supermax cell.
This is Duke LaCrosse, but 10x.
Amen, and a bunch of Waco PD.
The lawsuits are going to bankrupt the city and county.
I think Tommy Witherspoon, the reporter, might be mathematically impaired.
“only about one-third of those originally arrested in the Twin Peaks incident are still facing charges.”
“On that day, 177 people were arrested”
So 1/3 of 177 would be about 59.
“leaving 38 still under indictment”
38 x 3 would be 114.
114 =/= 177
59 =/= 38
Let’s try ‘only between 1/4 and 1/5 of those originally arrested ...’
or
‘less than a quarter of those originally arrested...’
Of the 177, I believe only about 154 were indicted.
No, the governor is making all the taxpayers of Texas cover the bill. He’s given close to a million dollars to the county thus far to cover their bills.
They have destroyed many Bikers lives.
Businesses’ lost.
Get ready to pay.
I quoted what you quoted him as having written. And he clearly said "arrested", not "indicted".
Reporters have always been capable of embarrassing themselves - I won't post my most glaring error in my youth - but in the old days, real papers had copy editors to keep reporters out of trouble (most of the time). Copy editors are history, and now all reporters have to live with their fumbles.
Where do they get their jobs and money back?
Wait a minute. I recall a vehement poster who said all bikers are criminals. How can this be?
I was trying to recall that crackpot from back when.
...........lol, I’m an Abbot supporter just not on this.
But, you just have to understand Texas Politics. Namely, the Baptist’s in Waco STILL enjoy limitless power in Austin in the legislature AND they have a HUGE ally in Governor Abbott.
So, it was and is a given that the State will bail their asses out of this sling. I hope Abbott gets some heat for it next election even though I will still vote for him. HIs conservative rating has to be in the nineties.
Subhuman ping. In before (well, you know who) . . .
Hope your spirit is better with the warmer weather.
Bttt.

Reyna should be drawn & quartered and his grandchildren in need of police protection.
The arrogance of these government a**holes knows no bounds.
Remember this huge injustice the next time you are called for jury duty.
Yes, however bad Abbott is, he's still better than Lupe the Lesbian.
