GREENBURGH, NY — A Bronx woman allegedly read obituaries so she could target homes when she knew the people who lived there were out at funerals, police said.
Police investigating a robbery pattern realized the homes of people listed as next of kin in funeral arrangements were being targeted.
New York State police gave local police information on a potential suspect’s car. Greenburgh police stopped the vehicle and inside that car found property that had been taken from a home on Feb. 22.
Police arrested Latonia Shelecia Stewart, 26.
She was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and criminal possession of stolen property. Stewart was arraigned in Greenburgh Court and released on bond.
No, the real story is that anyone in the Bronx can read.

The things my idiot siblings and their kids put up there: DOB, HS + years, college and years, address, phone number and of course an alert to burglars when they are out of the house for food, vacation, going to the freaking bathroom a Starbucks, etc. I am sure funerals.

I want to say, if some of these criminals, such as her, put as much effort into a job, as they put into planning and executing the crime, they could be gainfully employed. And earning a good living.
Instead, she may well have a change of address, to prison.
Not uncommon. My church has to have a security guard in the parking lot during funerals, and also on Sunday. People and the “homeless” will come break into cars while people are inside the church.

Well, she’s cold but not a Psychopath. A Psychopath would have killed someone as a pretense, to, rob the family.
When I was at Ft. Riley, there was a clerk in our Battalion S1 that of course had access to all our personnel records. He apparently singled out second lieutenants because they were generally single, lived off post and had enough money for decent TV’s, stereos, etc. Inevitably, when the battalion was in the field, their apartments would be hit by one of the clerk’s buddies in another unit. Didn’t take too long for CID and the local police to connect the dots and nab the guy.
Yes, I’m surprised more people don’t guard against this. What lowlifes. I don’t live in a particularly dangerous town, but I recently asked my neighbors to park in my driveway and watch the house while I was out of town for a funeral.
A couple people I mentioned it to had never heard of this.

Happened to a neighbor a few years back, I learned about it on the local news. I go by that house almost every day.
I have heard of this technique a long time ago. Obits are a crime risk.
