No, booze is not any better. It's just ingrained in thousands of years of our culture. In fact many aspects of booze are probably worse than marijuana. That's just my gut feeling; I'm no expert on either.

I’m not a supporter of legal recreational marijuana, but with states legalizing it, I think we’ll have to wait to see the long term results/consequences. Twenty years from now, it will be interesting.

Alcohol completely leaves your system within 24 hours. THC in pot in stored is fat cells and can stay around for a month or more. Here's some data I found on it:

• For single use: up to 8 days
• For frequent use: up to 15 days
• For regular use: up to 30 days
• For heavy use: up to 45-77 days

So a person can be affected for a long time after using it.

That is misleading. Sure, traces remain in adipose tissue but the psychoactive effects for an occasional user last about 2 hours for smoked or vaped product; somewhat longer for orally ingested. That was my own experience on my first (and last!) encounter with “new pot” — the strong stuff. At two hours exactly, it was as though a curtain opened and I was back to normal, just like that!

The funny thing about many pot users is when you mention even the smallest scientific fact or study criticizing marijuana use, they act like you’ve just ran over their grandmother. I know alcohol is far from sunshine and puppy dogs, rainbows and butterflies, but does pot really have to be? There are actually negative effects experienced by a certain percentage of users, as well as long term effects experienced by all. Does saying that make me a puritan fanatic out to take away all your fun? It just reinforces by perception that paranoia is one side effect.
