Chinese personnel at the country's first overseas military base in Djibouti have been using lasers to interfere with US military aircraft at a nearby American base, activity that has resulted in injuries to US pilots and prompted the US to launch a formal diplomatic protest with Beijing, two military officials told CNN.
The US issued a notice to airmen "to exercise caution when flying in certain areas in Djibouti," which "was issued due to lasers being directed at US aircraft on a small number of separate occasions over the last few weeks," according to the notice obtained by CNN.
"During one incident, there were two minor eye injuries of aircrew flying in a C-130 that resulted from exposure to military-grade laser beams, which were reported to have originated from the nearby Chinese base," the notice said.

A more effective “formal diplomatic request” would be to send cruise missiles to obliterate the offending site.
Cluster bombs. White phosphorus. Heck, napalm.
Agreed.
No sh*t. You try to blind me, I’ll beat the crap out of ya. This diplomatic response is what Obamatard would do, not Trump.
Ask the Turtle to talk to them. He seems to in touch with them.
Be a shame if a couple laser guided munitions happened to lock on those dinks. By accident
I guess we need to stop using transparent cockpit canopies.
We need to use armored hatches and give the pilots VR goggles fed by sensors and cameras.
The Chinese should receive a formal notice that laser illumination will henceforth be treated as hostile fire and that the source of the fire will be obliterated.
How about send one of our new F35s over the area. They are equipped to detect the origin of lasers and can send a military laser right back to the spot it originated. Payback is all the Chinese understand. Anything else is just weakness to them.
I bought a military surplus Steiner binocular which had a laser shield built in. I wonder if it would really help.
I read somewhere that it degraded optical performance a tiny bit. I phoned Pioneer optical which imported Steiner at the time and a lady there told me they would remove the shield for free.
I ended up selling it to a guy at a gun show near Savannah. He was docked at a nearby dock and walked over to the show. He said the binocular was just what he wanted.
Wart Hog with 30MM depleted uranium bullets would work well too.
Bingo! Auto-launch to the source. Then let the Reds file a formal complaint!!
Ping.
When did the Chinks get a base there and what os there ?
