The Sanders Plan to Impoverish Americans
American Thinker ^ | 2 May, 2018 | Howard Becker

Posted on 05/02/2018 7:29:31 AM PDT by MtnClimber

The latest policy proposal from Senator Bernie Sanders is that the federal government offer a $15-per-hour job to anybody who wants one. If the Sanders policy is actually implemented, it will result in a drastic decline in the standard of living of most Americans, including most low-income Americans. That is, the Sanders policy will result in Americans consuming less in goods and services than we are currently consuming. The explanation of why the Sanders policy will result in Americans consuming less is simple: the policy will cause Americans to produce less, and you can't consume more than you produce. The explanation for why the Sanders policy will result in Americans producing less is also simple: it will cause tens of millions of Americans to stop doing useful work and start doing useless work.

“It is frightening how many Bernie bumper stickers I see.”

He’s a total “FREE-BE” man. No one really works, and everything is FREE. What really happens is that you end up having a whole population which will be an underclass and who will always vote to keep the “free-be’s” coming and the socialists in power.

That would be about 9 trillion a year on top of the 4 trillion already spent for a total of 11 trillion.

We are only a 20 trillion a year economy, iirc, with a GDP of about 20 trillion.

That’s not income. That’s what gets generated by the economy.

Bernie is a poster boy for what Ronald Reagan said about Liberals: “It isn’t what they don’t know which bothers me as much as what they know that isn’t so.”

The Bernie plan has another flaw...how do you pay for it? Bernie’s response would be to simply tax the rich at confiscatory levels and use that money to pay for government make work jobs. However, when the rich are bled white by taxes, they are not spending or investing their money to grow the economy. Many of the wealthy may simply pack up and leave the country taking their money and entrepreneurial talents with them. Soon there will be no more rich to tax. If you want to see the results of Bernie style socialism look at Venezuela.

The difference is, Venezuela does not control the printing presses that produce the world’s reserve currency.

Venezuela tanking would not cause economic depression around the globe.

I fear they could actually get away with this for quite a long time.

Bernie would push the wealthy & productive into John Galt status.

IF you don’t know what I am talking about-—read Atlas Shrugged-—every single word.

Us consuming less and having a lower standard of living is exactly what they want. For global equality to be brought about, America must be crippled and tied down. And for Americans to accept it, they must gradually come to feel that this is simply “how it is.”

IIRC, Bernie never really "worked"...he's been a govt lackey for decades....

fact is, the welfare class does better on welfare then having a $15/hr job...no one is going to fall for this unless they're forced to work...and just imagine how enthused they'll be in their forced $15/hr job...think Philly airport workers...

Bernie IS one of the rich. He would, of course, exclude himself and his buddies. His real definition of “rich” is the middle class who do the work and all of the heavy lifting.

All of those below “his level” would be made equal. Equally poor, equally miserable, but NOT equally enslaved. His voting constituency would not have to work but the rest of the Kulaks would working to support themselves and the rest.

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Hopefully, this miserable, old communist will soon follow another member of the “club”, Juan Mcpain.

Bernie the millionaire socialist with 3 homes. All the money and homes since he became a senator. In short bribes and keeping the money his supporters sent him to run for president.
