Storied guitar-maker Gibson Brands Inc., whose customers have included B.B. King, Chuck Berry and Jimmy Page, filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday with a deal to hand control of the company, which has struggled with its debt load after a series of soured acquisitions, to bondholders led by private-equity giant KKR & Co.

Not many these days will do what it takes to learn an
instrument.
Indeed it was.
Remember what Obama did to them?
On Aug. 24, 2011, federal agents executed four search warrants on Gibson Guitar Corp. facilities in Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., and seized several pallets of wood, electronic files and guitars. One of the top makers of acoustic and electric guitars, including the iconic Les Paul introduced in 1952, Gibson was accused of using wood illegally obtained in violation of the century-old Lacey Act, which outlaws trafficking in flora and fauna the harvesting of which had broken foreign laws.

I’ve played in some bar bands, but am hardly a professional. I just like different kinds of guitars. I have pretty much everything I am interested in at this point. The Larrivee is the most expensive I’ve bought and that was $850 with a hard shell case. There are a lot of great used guitars out there in the $600 range.
I can't imagine millennials getting a Sears Silvertone and forming a garage band as we did in our day. Yup, they are hipsters. Just not hip.
Theres about a billion gibsons already in circulation. Among a sea of other brands of guitars.
Same business model as Harley.
Make Harley a ‘life style’ they said as all the tshirts, drink coolers, shot glasses, over priced ‘Harley’ crap made in China sits on the shelves.
They innovated all right.
Now they come out with an electric Harley?
Sell short.
Gibson guitars are fabulous!
But you do need to avoid the stinker models, which are few. 2015 wasn’t Gibson’s best year and robot tuners was a really lame idea.
But my new Les Paul ES is the sweetest electric I’ve ever known. Hard to get to know but wonderful if you play her right. Just like a woman.
Post 1970 Gibsons are awful, but I’m a Fender guy.
The market is FLOODED with guitars now.
Just check Ebay or Reverb. They are practically giving guitars away.
A guitar is a product that can EASILY last decades. And most of these already bought new guitars are passed around the guitar world from buyer to buyer.
Seldom does anyone buy a brand new guitar at full retail off the shelf anymore. I NEVER do anymore.
These companies are pumping out thousands and thousands of guitars every month.
How many guitar buyers out there?
I have both and absolutely love Fender over Gibson but my recently acquired 2007 would disagree with your statement.
2012 and fwd, yeh, you got a point.
A Marauder! LOL, that was my first electric. Man, that thing was a dog! I tried rewiring and new pickups on it. Nothing worked. It had such a crappy sound, but I learned a lot about working on electrics for sure...

my newly acquired Les Paul...page 1 of thread
As someone else in that thread said, “That’s a looker!”.
Very nice.
The best guitars on the planet brought low by obama’s political venom.
How much of this is fallout from Soetoro State persecution (exotic wood importation prosecution) due to non-union, quasi-conservative status?
Yes. Like Cadillac dealers targetted for being conservative.
Communists are as predictable as despicable.
You have me beat. I have 4.
A Univox Hollow Body electric I've had since Junior High, a 1974 Martin D12-35, a Pimentel Jumbo 12-String and a Rickenbacker John Lennon Signature 12 string version. Almost bought a Gibson Les Paul once, but it was sold before I could get it.
