Rep Lamborn R -CO 5 booted from ballot
RRH elections ^ | April 23, 2018

Posted on 04/23/2018 7:09:44 PM PDT by SMGFan

The Colorado Supreme Court has done what chronic primary challenges could not: end the congressional career of six-term Rep. Doug Lamborn (R). The State Supremes ruled that Lamborn (R) of Colorado Springs did not submit his petitions correctly and will not be on the ballot. The culprit is a technicality of Colorado’s byzantine ballot-qualification laws: Lamborn employed a firm that used a non-eligible petition circulator, and thus those petitions were invalid. Lamborn was always one of those strange incumbents who never got a hold on his district despite not making waves in DC: poor relationships with the local conservative establishment and unimpressive political skills meant that Lamborn has a history of narrow primary victories, and attracted strong challengers every cycle in spite of his backbench, Generic R voting record.

This cycle, Lamborn had two “A” list primary challengers: libertarian-flavored State Sen. Owen Hill (R) and El Paso County commissioner and 2016 US Senate nominee Darryl Glenn (R), and they will now be the ones to square off for the open seat (a couple Some Dudes are also apparently in the race, but it seems unlikely they will ultimately make the ballot.) CO-5 is essentially coextensive with the Colorado Springs metro area, plus a small amount of rural territory. It’s R+14, so whichever candidate wins the Republican primary will likely be a Congressman.

This smells like a Cheap Labor Express takedown of one of the good guys that sides with the citizens and the rule of law.

My district. It includes Colorado Springs and the Front Range communities to the west and south of it.

Its a conservative GOP district.

compare this to the problems the courts have with voter id laws. Laughable.

I missed how not filling out the forms and “ poor relationships with the local conservative establishment and unimpressive political skills” got this guy booted from the ballot.

My district.

Mine too. Doug is a good guy, but honestly, a little lackluster.

Well, let's see how the libs like the fruits of their gamesmanship.

Lamborn is a solid conservative and supported Trump's agenda.

But, this is only a loss if the replacement does not support Trump's agenda.

So, who's likely to win the seat?

Darryl Glenn, who also supports Trump's agenda.....oh....and liberals may be frustrated to deal with Mr. Glenn's conservatism, given his African-American heritage.

The petition signature gatherers are required to be Colorado residents. One lived with his in-laws in Colorado but owned a house in California. The court ruled that he was not a Colorado resident.

This is incompetence upon Rep. Lamborn’s part. Yes, Colorado’s requirements are a bit byzantine, but he is a six-term congressman, not a newbie to electoral politics.

As the candidate, he has the responsibility of ensuring that his petitions meet legal requirements, he didn’t.

Sucks to be him.

Yes, you would think that an incumbent would have a local volunteer base that could collect a couple of thousand signatures easily.
