vulnerable
Definition
1 : capable of being physically or emotionally wounded
2 : open to attack or damage : assailable
Did You Know?
Vulnerable is ultimately derived from the Latin noun vulnus ("wound"). Vulnus led to the Latin verb vulnerare, meaning "to wound," and then to the Late Latin adjective vulnerabilis, which became vulnerable in English in the early 1600s. Vulnerable originally meant "capable of being physically wounded" or "having the power to wound" (the latter is now obsolete), but since the late 1600s, it has also been used figuratively to suggest a defenselessness against non-physical attacks.
Examples
The article reminds readers to install the latest antivirus software on their computers so that they will not be vulnerable to malware and viruses.
"Updated flood maps would give property owners an accurate picture of how vulnerable their property is to flooding and would help them take the appropriate measures to prepare for future storms." Steve Ellis, Asbury Park (New Jersey) Press, 15 Mar. 2018
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
MY ENTRY: Beta males seem to assume that their projection of vulnerability will attract nurturing females, but all it does attract is scorn from us ALPHAS! LOL!
I have no doubt in my mind that our erudite and articulate FReepers have such wonderful vocabularies, that instead of taking the “Schoolteacher Approach” to WFTD, I merely present the word and encourage you all to join in with your terrific comments, poems, Limericks, and Haikus.
Here We Go! :-)
Friday together
You drove
And loved
The vulnerable me
Saturday too
Until about 4
Then who
Did you turn in to?
Cant unrub the lamp
Or call the Genie back
My wish
Had been granted
Holding my face
You say
Youre leaving
It was your wish, not mine.
The Blue Wave washeth,
the powerful and the poor.
The vulnerable are the Pubs,
who will be heading for the door.
America will be returned,
to the time she was in before.
And plunged headlong,
into 1984.
(Hey, you said poem...you didn’t say “good” poem.)
Just...Wow. Beautiful!
Not bad at all! :-)
Is the the Shakespearean “Plunge” Plungest or Plungeth?
Thanks for the kind words!
I actually wrote that a few days ago from a Word Press prompt. I’ve never had that exact experience, so I’m not even sure where it came from, in a sense.
The vulnerable little snowflakes
Constantly gasping and reeling
Are shocked to find employers
Don’t care what they are feeling-
Interviewers don’t give a damn
About every trigger and quirk
They want to see competence
And education to do that work
A degrees in Feminine Studies
Won’t bring any offers for a job
Work is required for a paycheck-
Either that or some banks to rob...
It is so cool what one word can blossom into.
Now we’ll have to ban vans (as well as knives, guns, etc.) since we’re now vulnerable to these attacks:

Not to mention hammers, rocks, bowling pins, and iron skillets.
