I had an automatic cat box ages ago, and my cat learned how to trip it without going, and continually trip it and watch it for hours. I think something similar was the inspiration for The View.

You might be right about the View. We used to have a box similar to the one you describe.

We activate our Cat Genie manually, running it once a day.

It scoops out the solid waste, then washes and dries the litter, then pumps all the waste into an adjacent toilet. We still have to flush the toilet after the cleaning cycle is over - the cats have not yet figured out how - and I’m not sure I want them to know.
