An Alabama teen laughed Thursday as a judge sentenced him to 65 years in prison for murder and theft after he rejected a plea deal that would have given him 25 years behind bars.
Lakeith Smith, 18, of Montgomery, Ala., was sentenced to 65 years by Judge Sibley Reynolds for felony murder, armed burglary, second-degree theft and third-degree theft, FOX8 LIVE reported.
Smith smiled and laughed while being sentenced at the Elmore County courthouse. He had turned down a plea deal that would have recommended he spend 25 years in prison on the charges.
I dont think Mr. Smith will be smiling long when he gets to prison, C.J. Robinson, chief assistant district attorney, said. We are very pleased with this sentence. Because the sentences are consecutive, it will be a long time before he comes up for even the possibility for parole, at least 20 to 25 years.
Judge Reynolds said Smith seemed to show no remorse for his crimes during the trial and did not apologize. He also overhead the teen say, I dont have time for this.
You got plenty of time for this, Reynolds told Smith before announcing the sentence. When I called the case earlier you said you aint got time for this, so I didnt know if you had time for this now?
Smith laughed and said he did not know Reynolds heard his comment.
You just dont get it, do you? Reynolds asked. "He hasn't said I'm sorry yet. He hasn't acknowledged to this court that he shouldn't have done, shouldn't have come around, in fact, his attitude toward this court and life, in general, has been sour.
Smiths grandfather pleaded with the judge and the teen to give him a chance to apologize.

“Yeah, because 65 is more bigger than 25 you dummies!”
Won’t he be surprised...
A feel good story. :-)
Another product of the leftist socialist Holocaust that has destroyed millions of lives. The left really gets off on murder don’t they. Killing babies, importing killers, destroying the family unit to ensure ferals are raised. And then they flip out over guns as if they suddenly give a damn about lives.
He’ll die in prison, and not from old age.
This is what we used to call, “Cigarettes, beer and a real low IQ.”
Probably just following in the exact same footsteps as previous and likely numerous males in his “family.”
The unfortunate part is that our society and institutions shall most likely not be in tact in 20 years. He and 200,000 just like him will be war lords, controlling life for everyone.
More likely in 2 years or less this dipstick will get shanked in the exercise yard and shipped home in a box.
I remember when football player Aaron Hernandez was going through his murder trial. He smirked his way through the whole thing and once in prison, told his jailers that he was a tough hombre and that "nobody was going to get to him."
He hung himself in his cell less than three years later.
So you’re a glass is still half full kinda gal? That’s nice.
Weird case though. They were robbing a house, cops turn up and kill one of the robbers, this guy goes to jail for “felony murder”.
Lets see him laugh after taking it up the ol’ highway a couple times.
Most of those 200,000 will be feeding buzzards.
Those who do not, however, will be a problem for the rest of us.
His nickname will be Ben Dover.
I don’t buy the false bravado.
_____________
Of course it is false bravado. He’s imagining all of his homies watching him ‘give it to the man.’ Another thing is that these low IQ types don’t understand reality. They’ve gotten away with everything their whole lives and this is just one other thing they think they’re going to beat just by being cool.
Everyone should read an essay written by a public defender. This is the mentality that inner-city blacks have.
“LaKeith.”
The ghetto-name-to-prison pipeline.
Just as likely a federal judge will require re-sentencing and he will be out in ten years or less.
