A Columbia University student was angry with her sociology professor for saying it was appropriate to use the term negro when referring to people of color while discussing the 1960s. She wrote to the professor, explaining to him that negro was an offensive and outdated term, but he failed to adjust his vocabulary. "I didn't pay attention in class after that," the student, Maria Martinez, told The Columbia Daily Spectator.

There really doesn’t exist a response within the realm of reason to that kind of insanity. Best to protect those in the vicinity first from them, then have a discussion on why they were outside the confines of an asylum.
How did it come to this?
My father said colored till the day he died. It was the polite word to use even in the 60s. Black guys I worked with in the late 60s would say “you know ‘John Smith’? About your height? Colored fella?”
These snowflakes need some serious ass-kicking!
They are not ready, emotionally, to interact with society and have no critical reasoning skills.
There used to be a plaque on Bascom Hall at the University of Wisconsin, referring to the “fearless sifting and winnowing” of ideas.
I imagine that plaque has been removed because it was a trigger.
Not positive the origins of the word Negro, but I suspect it came from the spanish world negro’, meaning black.
Am I off base here?

Maybe the NAACP... The National Association of COLORED People also needs to change it’s name. Sometimes people are just easily offended...
Or, for that matter, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

If I’m not mistaken back in the 60’s the Blacks referred to Jews as ‘Goldbergs’

That “student” was trying to teach the teacher. And when it failed, she went public. Good luck to that loser trying to find a job.
And these are the best of the best. Yikes. I assume that Columbia is a decent school....I know possibly making an ass of myself with that thought.

My amazement is that this was in a Sociology class. That is typically what you talk about society today and yesterday. This professor needs to fail this student for just being dumb.
