I still believe Crockett’s Victory Garden is the seminal reference. I first got it while living in Wisconsin, and now, I live less than 40-miles from it!

I agree. It is sad that they will not/can not publish his shows as a DVD collection.

I asked them and got the usual PBS bravo sierra reply.

tubebender :" I still have a couple of Victory Garden books somewhere and some of the old Old Organic Gardening books..."

Yes, the old Rodale's Organic gardening books
I had them too, as well as the Crockett's Victory Garden book (1977), and an original copy of the "Whole Earth Catalogue"
All are good resources, especially for insect, pest, and disease controls, if you can still find them.

It used to be that the "Mother Earth News" had a lot of good information about organic gardening and farming.
I don't know if they currently have organic recipes for organic controls, since I haven't gotten a copy in several years.
I guess the best opportunities to pick up Rodale's "Organic Gardening and Farming" might be at estate sales, since they were monthly periodicals.
My copy of Crockett's "Victory Gardening" is going to my youngest son who is a budding prepper and gardening neophyte.

It was a rough week here in Central Missouri. I cleaned up the barn last Saturday so I could get Nanner inside for repairs, and wound up with a raging case of bronchitis. Normally I wear a dust filter mask when I clean the floor out there, but I was out of them. Big mistake. Antibiotic, prednisone, albuterol inhaler, and a week off work was the result. I’m still hacking and gagging, but it’s looking like I’m going to live.

A mini mudslide buried the trash pump in the pond sometime over the past couple weeks. #1 Daughter’s BF helped me get that thing dug out of the muck yesterday, and I pumped about five feet of water out of the basin. I’m bound and determined to get that project finished this summer.

No sign of germination from the kale and spinach that I seeded the other weekend.

I chopped the asparagus canes and raked the bed yesterday. I need to hit it with the weed whacker and lay down a few inches of compost on top.

Fruit trees are starting to bud. Plums will open up this week I think.

Spring is about to sprung...

Great additions to a compost pile; they can be directly tilled in; they can be used for ‘trench composting, and mulch.

That will get you started. For more, just search on ‘using leaves in gardens’ or similar.

Glad you are feeling better. Take care of yourself, and don’t overdo it. Bronchitis is nothing to mess with.
