Needless to say, this would set a record for the sale of a U.S. pro sports team. “The price of the Carolina Panthers has reached $2.5 billion, according to people familiar with bids for the NFL team, which would set a record for a U.S. professional sports franchise.”

Bet the buyer still convinces some city to pay for his stadium.

Seems counterintuitive that prices are rising when the NFL is bleeding fans.

The hip-hop crowd doesn’t want to lose to the “redneck whiteboy” NASCAR crowd, and the NASCAR crowd doesn’t want the team to leave Charlotte. That’s it in a nutshell. Somebody’s going to lose their @ss.

Paying top premium dollar into a diminishing market isn’t a good idea.

Jerry Richardson thinks it’s an excellent idea. It’ll boost him from merely teetering on the verge of billionaire to a good $3.5 billion.

The Panthers own their stadium, though local governments have helped pay for improvements.

Bad investment. Football is not real estate, and it is way past its prime

Where are they going to get the players? I coach high school football at the Freshmen level participation has dropped significantly 4 years ago we had a squad of 48 which was the average size, this year we had 28. All the team’s we played had under 30.

If the Panthers, with 2 Super bowl appearances and no wins is worth$2.5 bill then what are the Steelers with 8 appearances and 6 wins or the Patriots with 10 appearances and 5 wins worth? Just askin.

Indicative of our whole Bubble Economy. If people actually started exercising rational thought the whole thing would collapse inside a week.

If I could sell the NFL short, I would.

Will the new owner of the Carolina Panthers be issuing stock?
