I'm sure you could write a thousand page biography about this guy so here is a condensed version.

Very interesting character and one of the many who does not get too much recognition.

Not many with this kind of war record made it out of the Eastern Front alive.

Hitler vs Stalin...one of those wars that you wish *both* sides could lose.

Russia feared Hitler’s tank tanks?

Tiger heavy: underpowered, unmaneuverable, massive armor, lethal cannon.

T-34 was an excellent medium tank, better functionally than the M4, though more primitive.

I once read that Americans (and Russians?) most feared the dual-purpose German 88mm gun, but the Germans most feared the Browning .50 heavy machine gun (best non-cannon ever, I opine). Eight fifties in a P-47 was an awesome ground attack weapon - even against tanks on land and destroyers on water.

Couldn’t stop reading; this guy was wounded more times than I could count - and he lived to 75. Amazing - thanks for the post.

Great post. Thank you.

Apparently, it’s really tough to get promoted in the German Army.

Strachwitz was almost 48 when he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and he was almost 50 when he became a full Colonel.
