The Vatican admitted Wednesday that it altered a photo sent to the media of a letter from retired Pope Benedict XVI about Pope Francis.

The Vatican’s communications office released the photo of the letter on Monday, the eve of the fifth anniversary of Francis’ election.

In the part of the letter that is legible in the photo, Benedict praised a new volume of books on the theology of Francis as evidence of the “foolish prejudice” of his critics. The book project, Benedict wrote, “helps to see the interior continuity between the two pontificates, with all the differences in style and temperament.”

The Vatican admitted to the Associated Press on Wednesday that it blurred the two final lines of the first page where Benedict begins to explain that he didn’t actually read the books in question. He wrote that he cannot contribute a theological assessment of Francis as requested by Vigano because he has other projects to do.

A Vatican spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, didn’t explain why the Holy See blurred the lines other than to say it never intended for the full letter to be released. In fact, the entire second page of the letter is covered in the photo by a stack of books, with just Benedict’s tiny signature showing, to prove its authenticity.

The missing content significantly altered the meaning of the quotes the Vatican chose to highlight, which were widely picked up by the media. Those quotes suggested that Benedict had read the volume, agreed with it and given it his full endorsement and assessment...

I would never have thought this 2-3 years ago, but I am now entertaining the possibility that Jorge Bergoglio is not the lawful head of the Catholic Church, for these reasons:

Invalid resignation by Pope Benedict XVI
- utterly insufficient and illogical nature of the reasons he gave (basically "I'm tired" and "I just don't want to do gigs like the WYD in Rio"). This, from a disciplined and logical thinker like BXVI, suggests that his remarks were scripted for him, and maybe imposed by some form of coercion
- BXVI's actual failure to say he was resigning the papacy, merely saying he was resigning his "public ministry," making this extra-canonical and obscure in a way "the BXVI we know" would never have done
- BXVI retaining an extracanonical title "Pope Emeritus", continuing to wear papal clerical garb, continuing to live in the Vatican, with his Secretary Ganswein suggesting he sees a dual papacy, "one man active and the other contemplative."
  If Benedict actually believed this, he would have changed Canon Law to reflect this, which he would have had the authority to do all along. But just hinting at it, with no express rationale, no canonical discussion, through a spokesman, at a Press Conference, is Bergoglio's signature way of dealing (not dealing) with things
Invalidity of the 2013 papal conclave because of impermissible politicking by Bergoglio's allies, which entails automatic excommunication
Material heresy on the part of Pope Francis through frequent pronouncements of a doctrinally impermissible nature (Amoris Laetitia is full of it)
formal heresy by causing the "Buenos Aires" statement to be published in the AAS, which means trying to impose as Ordinary Magisterium something which contradicts all previous teachings of the Magisterium.
- This latter point contradicts the first rule of formal logic. Non-A cannot equal A.

I'm no canonist, but it seems to me that any one of those four points would be enough to invalidate the Bergoglio papacy.

Do we need to wait another 50 years until the canonists sort it out?

The thing that gets me is .. What scared Benedict into running ?

I mean this guy is the Pope - We have seen the clouds part for the Pope (John Paul) we have seen that the Pope has that sort of direct connection to God.

Benedict wasn’t a bad guy, not at all. But what made him do what he did ? Do we need this church destroyed ? Is Benedict being spared from something ? The pope should not fear death - not even slightly. I mean no climbing rig sorta lack of fear.
