One minute in length. Thanks to lee martell for the suggestion.
I always loved those ladies but never knew the author / artist
thanx
Very nice.
I generally think civilization peaked at about the time of Art Nouveau (1890-1910). Culturally, it’s been mostly downhill since then.
lee martell was sure that I’d recognize the pieces, but I more know the style than the individual ladies. But I loved them once they were shown to me. I’m so very glad you liked it.
I wouldn’t say that because I also love Art Deco. I’m working now on a general art nouveau video, but I’m getting tempted toward more individual artists. The stuff is absolutely intoxicating! Really pleased that you liked it.
PING
Oh, I like Art Deco also. Not everything since 1910 has been bad. Some art, some music, some literature, some architecture — I’m really pretty eclectic. But as a general civilzational thrust I think there has been a tendency, across a broad spectrum, to promote degraded culture which requires less and less true talent.
I always thought they were the Gibson girls.
I think you’re absolutely right. U of Chicago’s Ad building was a concrete box with rectangular windows. And the contrast with the marvelous Gothic buildings was abysmal.
I also like the Arts and Crafts period. For music, I do find some of the new age very soothing. I think that’s what I like about Blanchard - the mix of classical and new age.
My modern art class stopped with Kandinsky, so I’m getting educated here, too.
Gorgeous. Love Mucha!
Must agree. One of my favorite Art Nouveau painter/illustrators was the Philadelphian, Maxfield Parrish.
The Lantern Bearers (1908)
Daybreak (1922)
Winter (date unknnown)
I want my money back from art school!
You arrived JUST in time! I had been about to start my art nouveau video and had completely spaced Parrish, one of my favorites, too.
I’m just using bits and pieces of:
Alphonse Mucha
Aubrey Beardsley
Elizabeth Shippen Green
Eugene Grassert
Francois Raoul Larche
Georges de Feure
Georges Fouquet
Heinrich Vogeler
Jacques Gruber
John La Farge
Jules Cheret
Louis Aucoc
Louis Comfort Tiffany
Louis Majorelle
Louis Welden Hawkins
Manuel Orazi
Maxfield Parrish
Philippe Wolfers
Rene Lalique
Walter Crane
and maybe a few others
Now am I AGAIN missing someone obvious?????
Thanks for the help in advance. Mary
How come?
And I should have added Charles Dana Gibson to that list I just posted for the Art Nouveau video. Thanks for remembering his girls.
For later. Always like his work.
Wow!
Thank you! I like that.
