Oh, I like Art Deco also. Not everything since 1910 has been bad. Some art, some music, some literature, some architecture — I’m really pretty eclectic. But as a general civilzational thrust I think there has been a tendency, across a broad spectrum, to promote degraded culture which requires less and less true talent.
I think you’re absolutely right. U of Chicago’s Ad building was a concrete box with rectangular windows. And the contrast with the marvelous Gothic buildings was abysmal.
I also like the Arts and Crafts period. For music, I do find some of the new age very soothing. I think that’s what I like about Blanchard - the mix of classical and new age.
