"I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say "Hang the sense of it" and just keep yourself occupied.

That’s a lovely story.
FRANKIE MOUSE:
Oh, er, well eventually just habit I think. To be brutally honest - and this is more or less the point - we are sick to the teeth of the whole thing! And the prospect of doing it all over again on the account of those whinnet-ridden Vogons, quite frankly, gives me the screaming heebie-jeebies, you know what I mean?
Just found out yesterday that the theme from the radio program was an Eagles song.

He won an award for it, by all accounts... :-)
Towel & copy of H2G2 in glove box, destined for Asteroid Belt.
Oh yes indeed - that theme introduced 15 year old me to the Eagles.
Ha yes - I love that particular debasement of science.
H2G2 was remarkably formative for this then-teenager.
Led to the incredibly helpful life principles “if I’m going to be wrong, I’m going to be DEFINITIVELY wrong”, “demand well-defined areas of doubt & uncertainty”, and other great quotes.
There was a point where I could literally have quoted the entire 6 hours of the original radio show verbatim.
That was a lovely tribute - Musk talked about how the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy inspired him when he was a kid in South Africa.
“...only always...”

Pink Floyd wouldn’t authorize use of “Lucy in the sky with diamonds” for Marvin’s arrival on Magriphia, so alas it was cut from the CD version (creating an odd jump directly from spaceship to underground passage).
Good God you’re gonna make me cry. Or is it the Bourbon Coffee Stout...?
So do I. The man was a genius. Guess it’s time to give them another listen.
Arthur: "And does that work?"
Slartibartfast: "No. And that's where it all falls down."
The Encyclopedia Galactica describes alcohol as a colorless volatile liquid formed by the fermentation of sugars, and also notes its intoxicating effect on certain carbon-based life forms.
The HHGTTG also mentions alcohol. It says that the the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, the effect of which is, "...like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick." The guide also tells you on which planets the best Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters are mixed, how much you can expect to pay for one, and what voluntary organizations exist to help you rehabilitate.
Lots of crinkly edges and fiddlybits.
I love the original radio version.
I have had the honor of visiting the Zaphod Beebelbrox Bar in Ottawa, Canada. Yes, Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster was on the menu. Alas, I was a teetotaler at the time - need to correct that...
