The only hesitation that I have about poisoning rats is the the problem of secondary poisoning of the cats or other non-rodents who scavenge on the carcass. Rats should be eliminated with extreme prejudice.

Rat-infested island, engaged with government operation to remove rats, is declared rat-free.

If I were Adam Nicolson, I’d be dubious.
