The movie creates the technically potent black African city state of Wakanda that has somehow evolved without being touched by colonialism. Fantasy, right?

He leaves out the fact the biggest export from these ports were slaves destined for the Arab world.
European colonization was (for the most part) the best thing that ever happened to Africa and the rest of the Third World.
And the retreat of Europeans from the third world was a tragedy.

Well, not really. It is considered 100% fantasy and will be viewed buy the audience like “Shangra La.”
No one will say “oh, Wadanka is how Africa REALLY is/was.”
Nope, they already are. I’ve predicted that the king’s rival in the movie will become a black icon within the next three years. Right up there with Tupac and Scarface.
Ever notice that there are no descendants of former slaves in the Arab world? It is because they cut certain very important parts off the men slaves.
Sub-Saharan Africa never invented the wheel which really tells you all you need to know. All this fantasy about great African accomplishments is just that, a fantasy. A few largish, primitive cities that were not self-sustaining just shows that they were failures over time.
If native Africa was so great, where is the proof? Where are the written languages? The books? The invention of math, advanced metallurgy, sewage and sanitation systems, roads, farming, universities, ships, navigation, the Enlightenment, beautiful Renaissance artwork?
The author posits a handful of great cities built by natives, then jumps 1,000 years to fantastic Islamic cities in Africa. Ergo, the islamists were the first to colonize Africa with imported technology.
This article strikes me as the typical liberal wet dream of “all cultures are equally good.” What a crock of hooey. If Africans were so brilliant and advanced, why can’t they live like civilized people in Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc?

It wasn't the Europeans that did them in either.
Many of the ‘lost’ cities mentioned were in existence thousands of years before mussulman existed, or Christianity, for that matter. Chattel slavery came much later with the coming of Islam.
All of this was documented long ago when I was in college back in the 60s. This is just a new exposure to old history. I’d cite the books if you wish.

Some undertones of this “Afro-futuristic city” that no one is talking about. (I haven’t seen the movie. not until someone steals it and shows it to me)
Nobody has a car or their own flying plane / ship. The elite do.
It has an advanced public transportation.
It has advanced public housing.
They make weapons.
They are all trained in combat of some sort.
There is some sort of different written language, but everyone speaks English. The written language is gooblygook.
If I was black I would be insulted by this.

And Third World colonization of the civilized world was the biggest tragedy of all. It plunged the world into a dark age, the likes of which history had never seen.
It seems to me that they might like to bugger cats and dogs.
