Propaganda stories about NK have become as absurd as propaganda stories produced by NK.
This doesn’t seem a propaganda story. The people of NorK are enslaved and made to do whatever their masters want. Refusal could mean a death camp for them and their families.

You don’t know that. You don’t know anything about what actually goes on inside NK on a day-to-day basis, and neither does anyone else who doesn’t live there.
It is highly likely 100% of your information on the subject comes from war propaganda.
The odds we have such specific and detailed information in this case when we have next to zero information in all other cases concerning NK are zero.
If you were hired to make up a story designed to stoke the flames of war, this article is what you write. The chance that any of it is true is astronomically long.

Your experience with NK is what exactly? Tourist? Businessman? Diplomat? Or just as another consumer of war propaganda?
Is it going to occur to you that your real-world experience regarding anything having to do with NK is actually null, zero, an empty set? And that furthermore you have no good sources of information on which to rely, to base a judgment?
Why not go ask Otto Warmbier what he thinks North Korea is like. I’m sure he will tell you the warmth and hospitality he experienced.

We of Western values are taught from a very early age that activity involving a woman’s “lady parts” is somehow entirely different than everything else about personal intrusion.

I’m sorry, my FRiend, but we have a great deal of information about North Korea and life in North Korea. Let’s leave government agency knowledge aside: The BBC, for instance, has done a number of deep investigations, hidden camera work, and an almost innumerable number of interviews with (lucky and normally ‘upper middle class’) literate defectors - people who were trusted to leave the NK border. A few quick internet searches should reveal much. Even Al Jazeera (useless on Israel) has covered NK magnificently, as has France24 and DW. I recommend you take a healthy break from the worst “world news” networks in the world: CNN and Fox. (Unless you want to buy a Smart Pillow!)

A little sex work is not the end of the World for persons for whom the alternative might be digging coal with a stick and have to put out to a crew of bored and angry miners in a slave shack.
I think they have a pretty good deal, for NK that is. After all, living in a third world shithole has its consequences.
If you want to feel sorry for someone in NK, try the 10 year old with the stick digging in a mine that is always 53F and having no warm clothing other than a polyester jumper and nothing to eat.
