Quincy Jones Apologizes For Interviews Where He Gossiped, Trash Talked
cbs2la ^ | Feb 22, 2018

In the chats, Jones was candid about his feelings about Taylor Swift (“We need more songs, man. F—ing songs, not hooks.”), Paul McCartney (“the worst bass player I ever heard”) and Michael Jackson (whom he called “greedy”), among others.

Jones also said Jackson was a song stealer. Jones produced the legendary “Thriller” album in addition to producing Jackson’s “Bad,” and “Off the Wall.”

I certainly don’t give a hoot what Quincy Jones says about anyone. He works in that industry, and being two-faced seems to be a requirement.

Thriller was all Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson just sang on it.

I absolutely love these types of interviews. Joni Mitchell does this from time to time too. They are a Hell of a lot more interesting than the banal puff pieces where the artist talks about how much he or she loves everyone.

I don’t have a problem with that...probably happens all the time, and some good songs on there. Maybe Quince thought he should have gotten more credit?

Other than some movie or TV themes, such as Soul Bossa Nova (Austin Powers) or The Streetbeater (Sanford & Son), I generally go through entire decades without hearing the name “Quincy Jones”.

Don’t apologize for being awesome Quincy, that was one of the most purely entertaining interviews any music icon has given since the 70s.

I wonder if he’s got dementia, with that lack of inhibition. His family told him to STFU, they are probably worried about slander lawsuits.

Quincy needs to just be quiet for a while. The statements he made cannot be taken back. I had always thought he was too much of a gentleman than to do as he did. Senility?

Joni Mitchell blasted Bob Dylan a few years ago for being a phony.
I was surprised at how competitive and envious Joni sounded in that article. Maybe I should not have been surprised. Early on, Joni knew of her natural gifts as a musician, as a lyricist, and she made the most of them. I don’t think Joni speaks in any large public forums anymore, not since her stroke a few years ago.

At one time, Paul McCartney was envious of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Mick Jagger envious of the Beatles Srgt. Pepper. . This inspired Sympathy for The Devil, one of the Stones best works. A certain degree of competition is a good thing. That often inspires someone to try harder.

He also claimed to have dated Ivanka. I see that as a bit of a stretch.

At one time, Paul McCartney was envious of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

Then Brian heard Sgt. Pepper and it drove him into madness when he realized he couldn't match it.

Lost to everyone obsessed with gossip, Mr. Jones also had this to say:

"Yes, but at the end Michael’s problem was PropofolIn 2009, not long after Jackson’s death, the Los Angeles County coroner announced that the singer’s death was caused by “acute propofol intoxication.” Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, had been prescribing the powerful sedative, which Jackson called his “milk,” to help with the singer’s insomnia. In 2011, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death. , and that problem affects everyone — doesn’t matter if you’re famous. Big Pharma making OxyContin and all that shit is a serious thing. I was around the White House for eight years with the Clintons, and I’d learn about how much influence Big Pharma has. It’s no joke."

Which of these presentations of 'I Can Hear Music' do you like best?

* Beach Boys

* Kathy Troccoli(with Beach Boy back-up)

* Ronnie Spector (The Ronettes) (Original)

* Ronnie Spector & Brian Wilson

I like the Kathy Troccoli version best.
