The image of a bright blue sky punctuated with white and grey clouds is one of the most iconic in Magrittes uvre, often used as part of a paradoxical landscape or superimposed onto various shapes, Sothebys writes in the bottles description.
A cloudy sky soon became one of the artists most iconic motifs, the auction house added.
Magritte used this image on two bottles; the other one, dating from 1950 and titled La Courbure de lunivers, is now in The Menil Collection, Houston.

We had a wonderful housekeeper from Poland.
She would have spent a week, if it was necessary, to scrub the paint off that bottle.
