""FBI Director Chris Wray made clear in a message sent to all bureau employees on Monday night that Deputy Director Andrew McCabe's decision to step aside was a result of forthcoming information to be detailed in an inspector general report, according to a copy of his message obtained by NBC News.

Wray alluded to having seen aspects of the IG's report into the way the FBI handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private e-mail server....

"It would be inappropriate for me to comment on specific aspects of the IG's review right now," Wray said in the message. "But I can assure you that I remain staunchly committed to doing this job, in every respect, 'by the book.' I will not be swayed by political or other pressure in my decision making."

McCabe knows the contents of the report and he stepped down as soon as he became eligible for a pension?

Let’s see what the IG’s report says. If it makes serious allegations against McCabe, the decision to allow him to step down rather than be fired will be outrageous.

McCabe wrote his own message to the bureau: “It is has been my privilege and honor to work with you all for the past 21 years,” he said, adding: “Please always remember that the key to those successes is an unflagging focus on integrity. You are the greatest workforce on earth because you speak up, you tell the truth and you do the right thing. “

Why do I hear in this the ends justify the means...............

let me guess...a Federal employee can "retire" in anticipation of a criminal indictment and keep his entire pension while said employee loses all pension rights once indicted?

Kinda makes me wish I had gone the old "public service" route when I was young.

This reminds me of a case in Canada a few years back.Canadian Air Force Colonel...commander of Canada's biggest Air Force base....sexual pervert...breaking into to women's homes to assault them...wound up murdering two women, including a Corporal under his command...got to keep his entire military pension under Canadian law.

Not if you understand the civil service. If I caught wind that management was about to lower the boom on me and I decided to resign today, the powers that be could not prevent me from doing so.

As to the pension, he has not been charged or found guilty of anything. He is entitled to retire if eligible.

Agree. Trying to fire any Gov. employee is no easy job. Many senior military officers put in staff jobs find a civilian civil service type in the office, too. I heard an O-6 remark how many times he tried to get rid of a GS-13 with no luck.

If you are “fired” before you qualify for your pension, you do not get it. At least, that’s how it works for the little people. McCabe appears to have been fired.

And exactly what does it take to get fired by the FBI?

The logic supporting McCabe being allowed to retire with his full pension is exactly the same as a child killing his parents and then appealing for mercy because he is an orphan.

Wray: I will not be swayed by political or other pressure in my decision making.

Why are there not multiple arrests at the FBI (including McCabe) then? Don't make us puke our guts out with disdain, Director Wray.

I think Wray is setting the stage for the pension to be challenged and removed, eventually.

Wray tips off the IG to go light on McCabe? Didn’t the FBI just finish doing that with HRC and the DOS, et al?

I understand that; I was speaking in general terms.

I don’t know if he qualified for his pension or not, words like “resign” and “fired” get thrown around quite a lot when what really happened is something else.

Unless McCabe is convicted of one of a very few specified crimes, his pension is 100% safe. McCabe’s background will land him a law firm job paying minimum three or more times his FBI salary if he avoids jail. His $100k pension isn’t such a big deal.

Let me get this straight.

Wray, the FBI Director who has access to ALL FBI files including
FISA Warrants had to view a congressman’s memo to make a decision
to “retire” McCabe?

No.

Not The Memo. The IG investigation is completely different. I believe it was leaked specifically that the IG found McCabe had used some FBI assets to support his wife’s political campaign. How many and how serious those assets were is unknown at this point.
