A Russian pilot downed by rebel fighters in Syria killed himself with a grenade to avoid being captured by the jihadists, Moscow has confirmed. Video footage filmed by the rebels themselves, sees Major Roman Filipov shouting 'This is for our guys!' before detonating the explosives as the fighters surround him.

Westerners have known for quite a long time that you don’t want to be taken captive by Islamics.
Better than the fate that would have awaited him.

EXACTLY, was thinking the same. Up there with Gary Gilmore, the murderer in Utah decades ago who demanded to be shot by a firing squad, so that he could ‘die like a man’, to use his words.
So the lovely terrorists can play with his body (or what’s left of it), but they will NOT be able to torture him. A hero to me!
Patriotism for his country to the very end. How many of us would have the balls to do that in the situation? It was just him and he wasn’t saving his comrades.
A horrible way to go, but I bet it was very quick and painless. To be captured could mean being burned alive or all sorts of other peaceful means our dearest islamo-terrorists have to dispose of anyone not taking to their religion.

In WWI, pilots began carrying revolvers with them. Their legs straddled the gas tanks on their biplanes. A round entering the fuel tank gave the pilot two choices. Die by burning to death or use the revolver.
After landing, Maj. Filipov remained in radio contact with the Russian airbase in Khmeimim, Syria, and reported shooting and killing two jihadist fighters with his hand gun as they closed in on him.
Take as many with you as you can.
If were to fall into into enemy hands, his comrades would take great risks to rescue him, just as our soldiers took great risks to recover Bowe Bergdahl.
He saved his comrades. Can’t do much more than that.

I’m not a big fan of the Russians, but I can’t help but have a deep respect for this pilot.
That takes man balls to do.
I don’t even know if I would do that. I would go down swinging my kukri I know, but this guy likely saved his own guys too from trying to find him.
Islam is death. Islam needs to be pushed back to where it came from and contained.
THAT is a Medal of Honor Candidate................or whatever they have in Russia as equivalent..............

Back in 2015 ISIS captured a Jordanian pilot (and a fellow Muslim). The pilot was burned alive in a cage.
